The place: one of New York’s most celebrated jazz rooms, the Five Spot. The time: summer 1958. The leader is the great Thelonious Monk, at the peak of his abilities as a performer and captured “in action” at the club where he first emerged into the spotlight. The band is one that has been drastically undervalued in history, largely because it was the successor to the legendary quartet that featured John Coltrane. But this group — Johnny Griffin, Roy Haynes, Ahmed Abdul-Malik and their exuberant leader — created two highly memorable in-performance albums (of which this is the first) of classic Monk repertoire.

Side One
1. Light Blue
2. Coming on the Hudson
3. Rhythm-A-Ning
4. Epistrophy (Theme)

Side Two
1. Blue Monk
2. Evidence
3. Epistrophy (Theme)

I have to say i love Thelonious Monk, unfortunetly yhis re-issue wasn't done very well,it sounds very dull.Maybe it's the way it sounded when it was recorded,i happen to have the regular lp I guess you could say and sounds just as bad.But what i was expecting ,was for accoustic sounds to make it sound better, livelier. It could simply be my stereo,I have an all tube system with CARY AUDIO,and CONRAD JOHNSON equipment and 2 turntables LINN SONDEK and REGA PLANAR 9 both with BENZ MICRO H2 AND M2,so my belief is that it's not the stereo.I have purchased alot of 45rpm records as well as most of the CLASSIC BLUE NOTE record and this one is the worst i can't even take listening to it $50.00 DOLLARS wasted on this.im just HIGHLY DISSAPOINTED.ps the BLUENOTE ALBUMS ARE THE BEST keep them comeing!!!
