Released in 1975, Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy is an autobiographical record detailing the early days of Elton and Bernie Taupin's song writing partnership, and was primarily written in the music room aboard the final voyage of the ocean liner SS France from Southampton to New York. The album was the first by any artist to enter at No. 1 on the Billboard charts in the U.S.
