Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition on 180-gram LP

Sonny Clark was the quintessential hard bop pianist. Possessed of a lyrical flow and inventive melodic ideas, he had a deeply rooted feeling for the blues. It was in 1958 that Clark arrived at his masterwork, Cool Struttin', recorded with a quintet featuring Art Farmer, Jackie McLean, Paul Chambers, and `Philly' Joe Jones. The album has only grown in stature since his premature death at age 31 in 1963.

This Blue Note Classic Vinyl Reissue Series edition is 180-gram all-analog, mastered from the original tapes.

Musicians:
Sonny Clark, piano
Art Farmer, trumpet
Jackie McLean, alto saxophone
Paul Chambers, bass
Philly Joe Jones, drums

This record had no surface noise at all. The record physically looked perfect. Additionally, this record was cut very loudly - just like with the Tone Poet releases. The quality of this pressing is indistinguishable from a Tone Poet pressing.

With all that said, the instruments were all easy to distinguish, and I could easily point to their locations in space. They all sounded natural, detailed, and sometimes quite visceral.

I would advise people to keep up on this series lest you get shut out; and you know that these things will wind up on ebay and discogs for multiples of the price soon after they are out of stock.

So far, 2 out of 2 records have been nearly perfect. I don't care that the outer covers are cheap - I care for the quality of the records themselves. I see these as equal to the Tone Poets in recording/mastering/cutting which also makes them as good as the Music Matters releases; and now you can get some of the same releases as MM for only
