Black Sabbath are bringing their first three albums back to stores. Black Sabbath (1970), Paranoid (1970) and Master of Reality (1971) are getting the deluxe reissue treatment on Jan. 22, two days after the band launches its The End tour in Omaha.

These three expanded editions, available as double LP sets, will be joined by a reissue of the 2002 live collection Past Lives, which collects concert recordings from 1970-75.

While Sabbath invite fans to celebrate their back catalog, they've reportedly opted against putting together a follow-up to 2013's 13, which marked singer Ozzy Osbourne‘s first full-length effort with the band in 35 years.

"Black Sabbath's debut album is the birth of heavy metal as we now know it. Compatriots such as Blue Cheer, Led Zeppelin, and Deep Purple were already setting new standards for volume and heaviness in the realms of psychedelia, blues-rock, and prog rock. Yet of these metal pioneers, Sabbath are the only one whose sound today remains instantly recognizable as heavy metal, even after decades of evolution in the genre. Guitarist Tony Iommi's loss of two fingertips, which required him to play slower and to slacken the strings by tuning his guitar down, created Sabbath's signature style. These qualities set the band apart, but they weren't wholly why this debut album transcends its clear roots in blues-rock and psychedelia to become something more. Sabbath's genius was finding the hidden malevolence in the blues, and then bludgeoning the listener over the head with it." — AllMusic

I am not a Sabbath fan, really at all. I bought this due to the hype around the pressing, and thinking it would be collectable. I opened, cleaned and played it out of curiosity after reading some amazing reviews. This is one of the best sounding recordings I've ever heard. Dead quiet vinyl, massive impact and slam, huge sound stage, and who knew Ozzy could actually sing? In the same league as the incredible UHQR pressings from AS

This pressing has a really good sound. It's far from harsh which is a big plus. In some songs I would prefer a little bit more bass/weight. Overall they made a good job. Sound 4/5
