Prog-metal titans lead off album with "Snakes for Dinner"

Equal parts crushing and cathartic, Marrow Deep finds Grammy winners Mastodon pushing their sound into new depths without sacrificing what makes them one of heavy music's most forward-thinking forces.

Mastodon channel profound grief into one of the most emotionally charged albums of their storied career. A 12-song testament of the effect those close to us can have on our lives — effects that can extend well beyond the time we have with them. An album ultimately representing resilience and solidarity.

Marrow Deep marks Mastodon's first album without co-founding guitarist-vocalist Brent Hinds, who passed away last summer. The remaining original band members — Troy Sanders, Bill Kelliher and Brann Dailor remembered Hinds in a recently released documentary titled The Mastodon in the Room. Marrow Deep is also notably the group's first full-length to feature guitarist Nick Johnston alongside significant contributions from keyboardist João Nogueira.

"Bill, Brann, and myself are thrilled that we still have the opportunity to do this, and we've got other members who are just over the moon to be in the band with us," Sanders commented. "That's a magical feeling that makes us keep wanting to go to band practice. It's reminiscent of the very beginning of our band, where all members are hungry, we're united, and excited to get to work. And we're thrilled to have the opportunity to do this record."
