Pegi Young and the Survivors' rendition of "Lonely Women Make Good Lovers" is the kind of song that evokes images of worn down barrooms that serve whiskey on the cheap. After a couple of rounds, a song like this would come on, either on a jukebox or played live by a band that frequents such establishments. It's a classic image, one in this case evoked by the carefree piano playing and the bluesy guitars provided by the Survivors, as well as Young's tried-and-true vocals.
Lonely In A Crowded Room finds Young showcasing her singing and songwriting talents on a rich and well thought out album. Her fourth offering builds on the acclaim and success of the previous three, the first being released in 2007. Mixed in with her original compositions are three well-selected covers — the Allen Toussaint penned / Irma Thomas classic "Ruler Of My Heart"; Spooner Oldham's "Lonely Women Make Good Lovers"; and "Don't Let Me Be Lonely" by Jerry Ragovoy.
