Posted Monday, March 23, 2026 by Baltimore When I recently purchased this MoFI SACD of the Doobies' Minute by Minute, I had forgotten that I already had the Japanese SACD. I have a very good SACD player and thus, I was able to compare the two. I first played the new MoFi and then the Japanese version. In contrast to many other MoFi SACDs, this one didn't sound much better or even different than the Redbook version. The Japanese version, however, had everything that a listener would want in a SACD, that is, a tight bass, a wide sound stage, and stellar instrumental and voice separation. Some listeners may find the Japanese version a bit too precise but with the album's production, electronic as well as acoustic keyboards, background synths and acoustic orchestral parts along with its original mix, it's overall faithful to what Ted Templeman and the Doobies likely heard on their studio monitors.

Van Morrison's voice is natural and well defined. The instrumentation is nicely placed within the soundstage.

And Morrison's vocal is not bright any more.even at the loudest parts. It nicely slips into the orchestration. At least on my stereo system... Congrats Mr. Luthans! *****

There is plenty of air and space in the soundstage. The cymbals sound so natural. If you are a disappointed owner of the 2008 remix/masters then do yourself a huge favor and upgrade to the AP remasters of the Genesis titles now. I own them all. They are ALL amazing.

I cannot wait for the releases of "Wind and Wuthering" and "Duke". Please consider releasing "And Then There Were Three" too, please!

Close to perfection

Posted Sunday, November 16, 2025 by Anonymous I know that it's a very old tape and was recorded on an early analogue multitracking system so this review should take in consideration with these circumstances. Crystal clear mids and heights (sometimes a bit too much fior me) also vocals and piano are perfect. But the bass is muddy in some places and the bass drum is lighter than it should be at the same time. Separation and soundstage is excellent. **** 1!2

They don't play complete songs but probably Richard has mixed them so segments flow into another song. Entertaining and beautiful but sometimes you want to hear a song in its entirety. Go for the Singles 1969-1981 instead.

It does seem to sound different than I remember the original pressing sounding, a tad softer in the lower end...but it is a 50+ year old recording so the fact that we can even get a fresh release on SACD, it's decent enough.

Don't get me wrong, I like it, but it didn't meet my expectations in regards to sound. In my opinion, Katy Lied met and surpassed all my expectations.

Atomic Punk Sound

Dave's vocals have more punch and definition. Great SACD remaster. What I was hoping for. Get it before it goes out of print.
