PUNCHY MONO BASS

5 Stars
Posted Saturday, September 29, 2018 by Anonymous Both LPs are flat and quiet. I’m not sure if this is all analog although it sounds like it. This mono remaster is superb and bass has plenty of punch but no distortion.

well done

5 Stars
Posted Sunday, August 13, 2017 by Anonymous all around excellent, clear presentation, and I really like the Atlantic black label for mono recordings! It lacks the immediacy of an original, and it's a little bassy, like most modern remasters, but if you have the means to acquire a quiet original you aren't reading this. Coltrane's Atlantic recordings were hard panned, so enjoy the room-filling mono on quiet flat centred vinyl!

The Rhino release 1259

5 Stars
Posted Thursday, September 4, 2014 by Anonymous I was turned on this this album by a forum member who swore it was black and smack in the face when things picked up. I removed the album from orig packaging and did use the RCM just brushed it and played. Quiet and well engineered I loved it so much I bought for a buddy to add to his collection. For the $ you cant beat this Ray Charles album it was just done right!

Interesting Music, Atrocious Recording

2 Stars
Posted Sunday, December 30, 2012 by Konstantin I was really looking forward to receiving and playing this LP given the Live Daily's description posted on Acoustic Sounds. Within 10 seconds of the needle hitting the first track, I realized it was a technical "lemon". I played the next track and then the next ... to no avail. My analog gear is somewhat heartless when it comes to "so-so" recordings Very sad. I don't have another analog front end to A/B the LP, so if anyone out there has had a better experience please relay.

Lousy quality control at Atlantic

2 Stars
Posted Monday, October 25, 2010 by Eric J Good album sprinkled with a few amazing tunes, including the song of the decade according to Rolling Stone magazine. Beyond "Crazy" I find that "Smiley Faces" is just as catchy and danceable.

However, the quality control with Atlantic is sub par. The spindle hole at the center of the record was too small for me to place on my turntable. I foolishly forced it down thinking it just needed a little stretch, but it was nearly impossible to pull off my turntable. Thank god I didn't damage my player.

Great music poor recording

5 Stars
Posted Monday, October 25, 2010 by Anonymous 5 stars for the music.2 stars for the noisy, muffled recording. Hopefully this album will be remastered to a higher sonic standard and re released to 45 rpm, by a different label.Incredible playing though.
