WOULD GIVE IT 5 STARS IF IT WERE STEREO!

Posted Saturday, January 6, 2018 by Paul M. Mock Although not advertised here as such, this Pure Pleasure LP is listed as being in "stereo" on other sites. I am quite disappointed to announce to all here that this reissue is indeed MONAURAL!

While that is not a terrible thing, these sweepingly lush Don Costa string arrangements (ala "Sinatra & Strings" from the same period) just begto be heard in full STEREO!

So, buyer beware on this one. It ain't what it coulda been!!!

Posted Tuesday, May 9, 2017 by Anonymous First let me tell you about the pressing; it is immaculate, no physical defect, no pops nor hiss. The mastering is also first rate, and purepleasure records have nailed this one, as well as the other albums in this series of Stacey Kent "audiophile remasters" which I also purchased.

Mono Masterpiece

5 Stars
Posted Tuesday, March 25, 2014 by Johnny Friday This is an excellent record. The personnel is second to none. My first go 'round with the record was the Columbia CD re-issue. It included all original charts off the LP plus bonus material. Although I absolutely fell in love with the music, there was a tinniness to the CD that I didn't care for - who would?!? But the charts were out of this world with each musician from Blakey with some top notch solos on the skins to a younger Hank Mobley working on his chops - the original LP alone was worth it. The bonus material trend is so-so but I really appreciate how here it is actually on a separate LP as opposed to some who try and fill in and you never get to feel the record's original vibe. The mono debate will go on and on but you get the original mono with the great analog sound and presence with a re-mastering that at times has you wondering if you are indeed listening to vinyl - in a good way. Packaging is excellent - original notes and new. Message received!
