This is a Diamond!

5 Stars
Posted Tuesday, October 31, 2023 by Anonymous This is Oscar Peterson all jazzy and laid back. I felt like I was listening to him play in my living room. Great performance but intimate not rushed nor reaching. Now to the recording- this copy is audiophile caliber. Quiet vinyl and clear sound. This vinyl sounded like a top quality high priced recording. All the way around I was pleasantly surprised.

I love this album

5 Stars
Posted Saturday, August 7, 2021 by Big-J This is the only Basie album I have (I will be looking for more). I picked this up for the great price and a friend recommended it. First, the vinyl is flat and silent. Second, the songs are engaging and well recorded. It is just a fun album that sounds awesome! Since it arrived a week or so ago, I have played it about 10 times. I highly recommend it.

AAA mastering that swings and grooves

5 Stars
Posted Tuesday, August 6, 2019 by watchnerd Analog mastering from the analog master tapes. If you're an analog purist (confession -- I'm not), this definitely deserves a listen for what a pure analog disc can achieve. And even if you're not, get it anyway because it's a great live album that grooves with an infectious energy. The comparison to Oscar Peterson are apt...this is a romping piano session that is just fun, especially the Battle Hymn of the Republic finale.

Mark Murphy's Transcendent Late 60's 'Tour De Fource'

5 Stars
Posted Sunday, December 3, 2017 by Stephen Norvell Widely regarded as Murphy's best recording from his years living abroad in Europe, Midnight Mood is an album of great Historic Significance. Recorded in Cologne, the Audio Engineering of this Album was superior to the engineering of Murphy's earlier works on the Riverside Label. This LP from MPS does not disappoint. The Vinyl is quiet, allowing the magnificence of Murphy's Vocalese and the accompanying Kenny Clarke/Francy Boland Band to be fully appreciated. Midnight Mood would be the first recording in which Murphy's rich signature Baritone Voice would fully develop from the higher Baritone Voice of his Twenties, preceding his legendary 1972-1994 recording contract with Joe Fields' Muse Label. Mark Murphy is among the best of American Bossa Nova Jazz Singers. For more than a decade, Murphy's Concerts at the Birdland Jazz Club in NYC typically reserved the second set of the evening for Bossa Nova Jazz. Murphy's recording of Sconsoloto is exceptional! Encore!!!

Addictive Collection

5 Stars
Posted Wednesday, August 20, 2014 by Bill Spence Hey, I'm the first to admit that when I get a box set, I usually play it through once and shelve it for a year or two. Well, I listened to this and immediately cued up the records to go again . Something I think I'll be doing for a bit here. Dead quiet vinyl and great sound considering the vintage. Extremely well done.

if you like groovy mod jazz...

Posted Wednesday, September 6, 2006 by donchianti dusty groove can't get the vinyl reissue of this cultish psyche jazzer, but acoustic sounds can? hmmmmm... original pressings of this one in less than great shape fetch ridiculously high prices, usually in the 100+ range. and i was not about to pay 30+ for an import CD of it. but 30ish for a new copy on thick vinyl? that i can do. dave pike is one of the great 'also ran' vibraharpists of the 60s. he was adding rock and world flavors to his music long before it became the norm. these questionable european reissues tend to disappear as quietly as they appear. so snatch 'em up quick! this is a standard crate inhabitant for all you lounge DJs out there.
