Phenomenal Live Album

5 Stars
Posted Friday, January 19, 2024 by Joe This is a great live album with a significant amount of songs that aren't on any other Neil Young Live album I own.

On top of that, since this was right after Ragged Glory, NY & Crazy Horse are in top form.

One My Favorites from Clapton!

5 Stars
Posted Sunday, November 19, 2023 by Anonymous I thought this was a great album even though some of the Clapton faithful seemed to be disappointed in it when originally released. Granted, not in step with his usual style but a top shelf collection of songs in my humble opinion. I got into this release after hearing "It's in the Way that You Use It" from the movie, "The Color of Money". After I brought it home, way back in the mid-80's, there were many tracks as good or better. "Run" and the duo with Tina Turner, "Tearing Us Apart" are awesome! My original copy was worn out, so I bought this one as a replacement. As usual, Acoustic Sounds did not disappoint, and the quality was impeccable. Flat, quiet and rich soundstage! I've never been disappointed with anything I've purchased here, and "August" was no exception.

Surprisingly good for a non-audiophile release

Posted Tuesday, August 23, 2022 by joey1127 First things first; this is NOT an Audiophile release. it's a mass-pressed by the millions till the stamper breaks thin vinyl record. Second; It's also produced from a DIGITAL Master/Copy. However, after a good 2-step cleaning process on a quality Record Cleaning Machine, this is a REALLY GOOD pressing. Mine is flat, little to no pops or ticks at all (why you want to clean it right away) and it sounds just like the CD releases. Even better, there is no distortion on the inner tracks of the recording. If you want to have Enya on LP, digital or not, this compilation is worth picking up. It will sound fantastic on your turntable and let you show off the magic of Enya from an analog source.

Can see why this album was not originally released.

Posted Saturday, June 20, 2020 by CL This is not a comment on the quality of the recording. It is purely my feedback on the content. There is a reason Neil didn’t release this back when it was first recorded. It is a group of mostly average songs with no continuity of presentation. This album doesn’t rise to the level of Neil’s normally meticulous standards. Unless you are a Neil Young completist, this is an album I would avoid.

Just Ok

Posted Thursday, March 8, 2018 by audiofan This standard-weight (120-gram) double-LP of Young's '92 masterpiece is what it is: a vinyl LP mastered from the CD-quality 44/16 digital. It cannot compare to the earlier releases in Young's catalog, which were recorded to tape. It isn't terrible, it's just a bit disappointing. My mid-ninties CD and this LP sound about the same, which isn't surprising. The pressing quality, however, is superb, with quiet vinyl and no surface noise.

Fantastic reissue

Posted Wednesday, March 1, 2017 by Kurt I bought all four Neil Young titles from the 'Discs 5-8 Box Set' in individual 140-gram versions, and though some weren’t perfectly flat or perfectly centered, they were all dead quiet and sounded excellent. "On the Beach" looks like the original (with the same inner sleeve and floral pattern inside the jacket). Only difference is the bar code and Official Release Series stamp on the back. All four have “CB” in the dead wax, so presumably they are pressed using the same remaster by Chris Bellman. Recommended.

Superb Horse

Posted Thursday, September 8, 2016 by audiofan Not sure why these re-issues are on "140-gram" (feels like 120, but who's weighing) but the vinyl, like the cardboard jacket, is undoubtably thinner to save them/us money. Not to worry - this pressing, despite a VERY slight warp (which my record clamp resolved) sounds very warm, natural, and true to the original, with perhaps slightly inproved dynamics/transparency. Although I no longer have my original Reprise pressing to compare it to (I basically wore it out, but, let's face it, my system wasn't as good in the mid-70s, either), but in head-to-head listening with my copy of the German (?) import offered elsewhere on this site, I must say I prefer this "2016 remaster". For those who don't want to buy the entire limited-edition box-set, this vinyl was very quiet, without a pop, tic, or surface noise of any sort, and is a relative bargain, as well. A great-sounding LP for the money!

All analog reissue

4 Stars
Posted Sunday, January 25, 2015 by Hikmer Clearly stated on the outside of the record is the fact this is an all analog reissue of this record. That being said, Eric during this period suffers a little from getting caught up with the times as it sounds very 80s (check out his Miami Vice look on the back cover.) Anyway, its the best you'll ever hear these tracks which if you grew up at the time were all over the radio..and you probably heard them to death. Solid effort and for $9.99 its a great price for a double LP release.

Sit Down and Listen

Posted Sunday, September 21, 2014 by CD Please don't wait for any of the "Experts" to tell you to buy this. Listen to me. It does not get any better than this. And by the way, From The Cradle is really Good also. It does not matter How the music was recorded. All that counts is How it sounds. This is perfect.

Poor Quality Control

1 Stars
Posted Saturday, December 21, 2013 by Anonymous Nice sound, but record skips. Tried two copies, returned both. For a record at this price point the quality control should be much better.

Acoustic Sounds: At Acoustic Sounds, we evaluated this record the day we received it. It did skip using two separate Koetsu cartridges. We immediately informed Warner Bros. of our findings. However, we have played this record on approximately eight other turntable/cartridge combinations, and the record has played without skipping. We have sold approximately 200 copies with only a few returns.

Sound is subjective.

Posted Tuesday, August 7, 2012 by Anonymous For those who wrote a poor review- I am amazed by you. The quality of records today must be so great for anyone to believe that they are not hearing amazing remastering, pressed by a great team, in a great pressing plant. I have a very nice high end system- tri amped with SET OTL on horns/tweeters for the highs and Van Den Hul Colibri with platinum coils. I also have great ears. Negatives have more weight of influence on people- don't believe the detractors! If you like this album at all buy this pressing!

Flashback

5 Stars
Posted Wednesday, April 20, 2011 by Anonymous I have heard this record dozens of times on CD, 8 track, cassette, and vinyl. I really wasn't expecting for the richness of Mick's drums and the throaty snarl of Lindsey's voice to grab me by the shirt collar, and it did! Truly, this was a record much deserving of love attention and viny remastering. This is one of those moments when the 10s of thousands of dollars sunk into McIntosh amps, Nordos/Cardas cables, etc etc etc totally pays off

Incredible improvement of a fine-sounding album

5 Stars
Posted Saturday, April 16, 2011 by Preston I have two copies of this LP: an original and a fine-sounding 180g import LP. My wife - who likes good sound, but is not audiophile - was skeptical that it was a good use of our dollars. After the first track she sheepishly admitted she was wrong. Where to start ... the bass is incredible in its definition and weight. You will be able to discern every subtle nuance in Fleetwood's varied drum work. Every instrument is more defined and three-dimensional in the soundstage. Things just simply stand out clearly, without drawing undue attention to themselves. The individual voices are much easier to pick out in the choruses. Another fine, fine pressing from Pallas: there is simply no record noise and you will tend to keep turning it up, it sounds so clean and distortion free. Overall, very three dimensional. There is just more information, period. Anyone who thinks that analog can not beat digital in sound quality needs to hear this stunning triumph of a record.

Outstanding!

5 Stars
Posted Wednesday, December 1, 2010 by Anonymous No real need to comment on the list of songs. I was curious as to why there are no reviews on this and so many on the Classic Records pressing. I was able to hear both and believe me, this pressing takes NO back seat to the Classic version. I thought the Classic 200g sounded very good. This pressing (180g from Pallas in Germany) is just off the charts in terms of sound quality. This is the current pressing and if you were able to sample both, I have no doubt that you would choose this pressing if you were going to purchase. I did. Highly recommended.
