I had an original pressing from Columbia that was a tad brittle sounding and bright. This Mo-Fi SACD absolutely cleans up this fantastic album and makes it sound really good. The nostalgia of 50's era doo-whop is ever present here and really shines as it should.

Posted Saturday, February 12, 2022 by Brian VanPelt The soundstage is huge. It seems to stretch beyond the speakers and goes very high. I feel like there is some depth as well. When Parsons sings, he does seem somewhat back in the sound field. The sound is wide open and there is plenty of space between instruments.

Everything sounds crystal clear, but not too bright. I don't know how Parsons does it, but during light moments, the sounds of his instruments seem to lightly float in the air - but then there is still slam for the more powerful moments. This sound can be so delicate, and so fluid it's just remarkable. Of course, the sound can also sound like you are in a stadium, as when a full orchestra comes in. Finally, Parsons' voice is perfectly centered, and the focus is super-tight.

I'll take this and Parsons' "Eye in the Sky" for what SACDs are capable of sounding like. I wasn't even of fan of Alan Parsons until I heard these SACDs. Now, he is on regular rotation.

Davis' playing is unsurpassed in its creativity, tone, and subtlety of phrasing. All rendered in outstanding sound that captures the emotional impact and wide range of colors and rhythm of the music.

Think listening to the master tape in your living room. The engineering quality of this recording is obvious. I found great enjoyment in the lesser know tracks, as the presentation was so remarkable.

A must for every Simon and Garfunkel fan.

Posted Friday, April 20, 2018 by Anonymous I purchased this title after being really impressed with the Mobile Fidelity SACD release of Carly Simon's "No Secrets," which sounds great. Actually, I purchased "Carly Simon" (released in 1971), Anticipation (released in later 1971), and No Secrets (released in 1972) all on SACD. I mention this because the SACD of Carly Simon sounds decent, this SACD (Anticipation) sounds better, and then "No Secrets" sounds the best.

This SACD sounds notably better than a good sounding CD release, just not great. It is somewhat veiled - lacking some of the clarity and depth of a great SACD release. It very well could be the original recording or degradation of the master tape over time. The music itself contains several classics. If you already like the album this SACD is probably as good as it gets.

Posted Tuesday, December 13, 2016 by Hal Broome Less reverb than the notorious "swimming pool" stereo version, and Jack's bass comes off more clearly, proving he was the rock foundation of the band. In the quieter moments, you can appreciate more the wistfulness and uniqueness of this classic San Francisco band, undiluted by the stereo shenanigans of Marty and Grace's voices coming from dueling speakers (although there is something to be said for that, as well!). Seems a waste that MoFi is finally putting out JA SACDs and not using the 4.0 multichannel mixes that exist, but I'll be happy enough if they follow up with Baxter's and Crown on SACD!

Posted Saturday, October 15, 2016 by Hal Broome I no longer have a turntable, but still have my original album, and in the following years have added the CD MoFI Gold, and even the Japanese SACD, which had a bit of harshness to it, but was still my "go to" version. I'm currently playing this new release for the first time, duly fast-forwarding to the highlights -- "Good Shepherd," of course, then "Hey Frederic," where Grace's voice cuts like a knife, and my fave, "Wooden Ships," that puts CSN&Y's version in second place. With old RCA 16-track tech, the sound will always be a "should have," but I'm satisfied! Odd that bits are more clear, while others fade (like a tambourine fade-out on "Good Shepherd" that seems muted). However, this is now my "go to" version. If I buy another version, it will be the SACD multi-channel: please, MoFI, allow this to happen! There is a quad mix of this, so why not?

This is the most realistic sounding, best separation, soundstage, etc. A great job on a classic deserving of a great job.

The "choo" in Allentown and the "drums" in Goodnight Saigon turn your living room into a recording studio. To use the old cliche, you feel like the album is being played live in your living room.
