Great Pressing!

5 Stars
Posted Sunday, April 3, 2022 by Anonymous Wow. Really great sounding pressing. This is by far my favorite and best sounding edition of this record. Can't imagine the 1 step improving on this much and I love that I don't have to fuss with 2 lps at 45rpm. I'd love to see more ELO brought back to life on vinyl this quit.

Clear and sharp, but......

3 Stars
Posted Thursday, August 8, 2019 by VicN This version of an old classic is very clear, fast and sharp, but as I listened to it, it just didn't grab me. They've achieved this clarity by biasing the high frequency end at the expense of the mid range. The result is a noticeable amount of the "music" has been sucked out of the mids leaving them very lean. The high end is empathised to the point that some songs were sibilant in parts. I was wondering if it was just me, so I threw on the Sundazed version I've had for a while, which was also produced from the original master tapes. The Sundaze version didn't have quite the same amount of resolution as the MoFi release, but was fuller in the mids, sounded better balanced and had no sibilance. To me the Sundazed version better captured the warm 60s sound and was more involving. So if you're a clarity/resolution freak, then the new MoFi is it. If you prefer the original warmer fuller sound, then the MoFi mastering may leave you a little cold (pun intended).

Disappointed

3 Stars
Posted Tuesday, December 18, 2018 by Spinnin I found the sound to be dull at a lower volume and glaring at higher listening volumes. My wife made a comment about the sound being sharp as she passed by. I listened thru speakers and headphones and came away with the same conclusion. I have the Speakers Corner reissue of Crime of the Century which was described by a person of authority as epic thru my headphones. So much for the Grammy award for sound recording.

truly great sound

5 Stars
Posted Thursday, March 8, 2018 by EW in this hobby for over 20 years but this is my first review. Why, simply because this is a truly amazing recording. Typically I am not a fan of Greatest Hits albums. This however is one of the really good ones.

Carole King - Tapestry Product No: AMOB 414

A classic gets a proper presentation

4 Stars
Posted Wednesday, August 12, 2015 by DeRosa This MOFI reissue of Tapestry is much better than the Japanese pressing i have in my collection. Carol's vocals can be tricky to capture, sometimes her voice can sound hard and bright. This version fixes most of what i don't like about other pressings i've heard, the detail is better in the high end, and the bass is punchy and solid. Overall, it's hard to describe the fact this record sounds a bit unconnected in places, like her voice is very much in front of a different performance. But the music is classic, and this is the best i've heard it. If you've heard this record, you may know what i mean about the sound, but i think you'll agree this is probably the best this record has sounded. Four Stars

An epic presentation of an epic release!

Posted Friday, May 29, 2015 by Brian After many years of listening to this record in the CD/digital realm, this AAA release is a revelation. It's an absolutely stunning pressing that draws you in immediately and doesn't let go. Kudos to the folks at Mobile Fidelity for another fine Miles Davis reissue. Michael Fremer wrote a very informative piece about this album at analogplanet.com that I would recommend to anyone interested (you will have to do an "advanced search" to find it). No doubt this one will be highly sought after once it's gone. I would not hesitate to grab it while you can. Unless you have a pristine original, this will be the one to own.

Huge soundstage

5 Stars
Posted Sunday, December 29, 2013 by Cal Just finished listening to this HEAVY 200 gram MFSL pressing. This LP has a HUGE SOUNDSTAGE. The band is very well "miked". Terrific bass presence, wonderful mids and highs. Before this recording I thought that 88 Basie Street on Pablo was a great recording -- which it is. But this album is even better. Skip the SACD. Buy the vinyl. This LP is the reason why you invested in your turntable, phono preamp, etc.

Disappointed

2 Stars
Posted Tuesday, July 16, 2013 by Ian Although the pressing and packaging are top notch, I am disappointed with the mastering. Miles' trumpet is small, rolled off/ dull sounding.

I have copies of this album on almost every format and all of them sound better in my opinion. My goto is the Speakers Corner LP.

meh...

3 Stars
Posted Saturday, September 17, 2011 by Celt I've always found Mo-Fi, Nautilus and all the other so called "audiophile" record companies to be a hit or miss proposition. They either nail it or miss the mark entirely. Sadly, this is the latter. While it's a nice quiet pressing (not always the case with current era Mo-Fi) this album, while barely 20 minutes per side, was cut at such a low level, it all but killed the dynamics of the music. Glancing at the grooves, you'd think the record contained nothing but speech, there's so little modulation. If you're looking for a clean copy that sounds good, try finding a used Elektra copy first.

Taylor's Masterpiece at its Best

5 Stars
Posted Saturday, July 30, 2011 by audiofan Always a great-sounding recording (kudos to the gifted Peter Asher), MoFi has, as per usual, done a fantastic job on 'JT'. The vinyl is totally silent and the mastering is as transparent to the source as I've ever heard - and I wore this record out back in '77. Displays gorgeous tonal detail and sonic placement of instruments in a deep & wide soundstage - everything you've come to expect from MF. This one was well worth the wait.

Posted Tuesday, October 19, 2010 by Scott While the audio might be a little less pristine than other MFSL releases because some of this material is over 50 years old the performances are well worth the price!
