Posted Wednesday, June 28, 2023 by Anonymous Purists say that Billie Holiday at this time in her career lost her voice and did not have the range required to be at the height of Ella. But as Norman Granz pointed out, Billie does not sing rather tells her songs. This is a beautiful album composed of 6 extended songs, which makes it more interesting because in addition to Bilie'svoice there is plenty of room for great solos of Trumpet, Guitar, Piano and Saxophone. It is a very easy album to listen, and it will appeal to people who want to get into Jazz. Regardless to say that Acoustic Sounds made a great job. I just wish Mr. Kassem decided to release the Last Recording LP on his label, another great album but with an orchestra behind her. On another note, if someone wants to understand Billie's life, I would recommend the documentary called "Billie." released in 2019. Then you will truly understand Billie.

The pressing is flawless, the sound is as good as I've ever heard it with great clarity on the instruments, and the music I like just a bit more than Getz/Gilberto. Another top-notch Verve Acoustic Sounds series release!

I also have the Ella's Swinging Christmas. It is labeled Sterophonic while the earlier two releases must be mono recordings. I do wish it could be confirmed that the reissues are in true mono. When playing on my Grado Prestige MONO cart it sounds much better than on my STEREO turntable.

Posted Thursday, August 18, 2022 by Billy O Hanluain I have owned previous editions of this Oscar Peterson classic but nothing quite prepared me for the absolute crispness and "live feel" of this version. Ray Brown's bass is especially warm and vibrant throughout. Once I dropped the needle in the groove and savoured the anticipation of the first notes of "Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars", it really did sound like one of the greatest ever piano trios were playing an intimate club gig in my living room in Dublin. Peterson's piano is pitch perfect while Ed Thigpen's cymbals sing with a clarity that I've rarely heard on vinyl before. Bravo Chas and all at Analogue Productions!

OK, I realize this is not technically an Analogue Productions release, but it is from the Acoustic Sounds Series overseen by Chad Kassem and his crew at Acoustic Sounds. This one is spectacular! A wonderful pressing by QRP that is crystal clear, very dynamic and dead quiet. One of the very best in my collection. Sure its a Christmas album but, any day is a good day to enjoy Ella. Get this one for sure!

But after receiving it and listening to it multiple times I wanted to take the time to give it a very enthusiastic recommendation. Wonderful sound, excellent soundstage, daed quiet vinyl, beautiful cover. If you were on the fence about purchasing this I would encourage you to buy with confidence. It takes a lot of love, sweat and dedication from everyone involved to produce products of this quality and I am so thankful for these luxuries. I have been gushing about Acoustic Sounds from the beginning and I thank them for never giving me a reason not to. This is a fabulous time for those who love music and exceptional sound quality. I hope that everyone is enjoying this ride as much as I am.
