Clearer than the EMI version

5 Stars
Posted Friday, March 25, 2022 by Brian I bought The Wall in both the EMI label and the Pink Floyd label. You can read the review on elsewhere on Acoustic Sounds. I mention that because I believe the quality of the Pink Floyd label is simply better than their EMI counterparts.

Immediately upon playing the Pink Floyd label version, I noticed the sound was sharper than the recent EMI remaster. It's as if they took the EMI version and buffed it to a shiny luster. Somewhere, I gave the EMI version a 5 star rating, but it needs to be changed to 4 stars, because the Pink Floyd label is now the 5 star album.

I directly compared both versions of "Have a Cigar". In the Pink Floyd version, you can more hear more symbol decay. On the guitar that starts "Wish You Were Here", you can clearly hear fingers sliding up/down the strings, while I could not on the EMI version. I could go on, but I think you get the idea.

This label has now produced two albums of equal quality. I will now order the rest.

Excellent recording and remaster

Posted Thursday, March 17, 2022 by Peter S I am not really a great Pink Floyd fan, but this is one excellent recording and pressing. The clarity, soundstage, and flawlessness are amazing. You won't regret it.

Sounds good to me

Posted Thursday, April 27, 2017 by Jim I compared this new pressing to my SHVL 804 A5/B5. After comparing, I listed my 804 on eBay to pay for this record and something else on my wishlist. The vinyl is flat, and not a pop or crackle to be heard. It sounds as good as the SHVL IMO, I'm very impressed. I bought the new Meddle LP and it sounds great as well.

Another good Pink Floyd Label release

Posted Sunday, December 18, 2016 by Brian I found myself physically rocking to "One of These Days" - the sound was so clear. There was no evidence of any distortion and, in previous versions, it always seemed like there was a sharp crackle somewhere in the song, or some dynamic spot was too much for my speakers to handle. Whatever it was, it is not evident on this record. The rest of the songs on side one sound as clear as the first, but the first song is the most impressive.

The second side just has the song "Echoes", which is 23 minutes of sonic bliss.

This album sounds superior to any version of the album that I've had, which consists of only the standard-issue CD, and now this record. Well, it is much better than the CD. I detected no tape hiss, and the inner grooves were well-behaved. Excellent job that continues the "new" legacy of the Pink Floyd label. As good as this album does sound, I think it's just a tick under "WYWH", "Animals" and "The Wall" (by the Pink Floyd label).

This completes my 70's Floyd collection

Posted Wednesday, December 7, 2016 by Brian The Pink Floyd label has been a nice surprise. I love WYWH and The Wall by this label, and this album is precisely of the same quality. Take any previous version and buff it to a shine, and you get these albums. I don't have DSOTM by this label only because I have the new Harvest remaster, and I'm perfectly happy with it.

Besides the original CD, and then the recently released CD remaster, the only vinyl I have is a recent remaster by Sony (the record is a pink marbled vinyl). I probably don't need to mention the sound of the CD's, but the Sony remaster sounds very nice and warm. In contrast, the Pink Floyd label remaster has another level of detail. You'll probably hear things not previously heard. For example, the dog noises are very sharp and easy to hear - completely audible. Versus the Sony version, this version has more depth and all the instruments are better defined. Even the singing seems to have less sibilance.

I am really happy with the Pink Floyd label - they are serious.

Fantastic Remaster

5 Stars
Posted Thursday, September 8, 2016 by Joey Pink Floyd have been re-releasing their catalogue on their own record label, and the results have been magnificent!

I own a fairly flawless original Canadian pressing from 1979, and this master is definitely cut at a lower volume. I don't own the 2012 re-master, but have read unfavourable reviews. That said, the clarity of this new reissue beats my original. Nuances are noted now, mainly because my original pressing is "in your face," and muddled as a result (although, to be honest, I enjoy that kind of sound for this record).

Is it a worthwhile replacement? Absolutely. Particularly if you can't find a clean original pressing (nearly impossible, unless you want to pay big bucks.) I don't know if this is worth $50, but if you can find this for a deal, you will certainly NOT be disappointed. It sounds incredible! I'm looking forward to more releases in this chain.
