Sound improvement

5 Stars
Posted Sunday, July 31, 2022 by Vlad Great pre-amp I do have improvement in sound separation. I switched stock installed JJ tube to my lovely Telefunken ECC83 and wow, it’s sounds even better now. I don’t use subsonic filter since I have both Hi and Low filters on my both Marantz receivers. This is my second Pro-Ject pre amp I also have the DS tube box MKI. I do like both.

Also a very good service with fast free delivery.

The Best

5 Stars
Posted Sunday, March 13, 2022 by Anonymous I’ve had many phono stages but am done looking. This phono stage is absolutely the finest I’ve ever heard (or not heard). It’s dead quiet and helps the rest of the system present vinyl the way it should sound, it is almost as if it wasn’t there! If you are a vinyl person you owe it to yourself to test drive this phono stage.

Probably the best preamp under $500

Posted Saturday, February 21, 2015 by Anonymous I bought this after scouring for reviews online and reading universal praise, not only for this item, but all of DB Systems products.

This phono preamp is definitely not a showpiece, and is housed in an unpretentious simple box that has a sort of "prototype" appearance. It's no frills- no nonsense, but what really matters is what it can do.

What this preamp can do is kill giants. Noise floor is super low, and I hate to say it, but it blows away my slightly more expensive Parasound Z Phono. It produces warm, accurate, balanced sound in my relatively inexpensive system (ProJect Debut Carbon and Epos Epic 2 speakers). Also made in the U.S.A by the same guy who engineered it.

Unstable product, needs quality control

Posted Monday, September 26, 2011 by Anonymous I have used multiple of these products, and found variable construction, and also prone to be very noisy at busy environment. MM version is reasonable.

Bellari - Rolls VP130 Phono Pre Amp Product No: M VP130

Sounds great, but required some fiddling

Posted Friday, February 6, 2009 by Anonymous When I first connected this guy and fired it up, HMMMMMMMMM. This is a pretty standard complaint from what I've been reading elsewhere.

First thing to do is to find out if the hum is internal. Unplug everything, get it away from all your other gear, plug in the power supply and a pair of headphones and see if it hums. If not, then you've got other issues but at least it's not internal. By the way, this makes a dandy headphone amp. Really sounds nice

Next, I yanked the Chinese 12AX7 tube and use a lower gain old RCA 5814A (lots of other choices for tubes too). Don't sweat using a lower gain tube, just turn up your amp a little. The preamp has a knob for gain as well. This reduced the hum but not entirely.

Finally, I had to open the case and place a small piece of elec. tape between the PCB and where it mounts (near the LED). Leave that screw out and put it back together with the other three. Hum gone.

Anyway, for the money and fiddling, great preamp. Sounds super.

Don't waste your money.

Posted Wednesday, September 19, 2007 by Erik I bought this little unit for temporary use when I got a Goldring turntable. I eventually bought the Bellari VP129, which is way better. The VP29 gets easily overloaded during loud passages causing unpleasant distortion, especially if you're playing rock music. If you're just getting into vinyl and you're on a budget, overlook this unit and go straight for the VP129, which is a great preamp at a very affordable price.

Can't touch this one for anywhere near the price!

Posted Sunday, April 10, 2005 by John Greenstreet I recently bought a new 7.1 channel A/V receiver that, unlike most, actually included a phono input. Digital and other line-level sources sounded fantastic, but it seemed that all my vinyl had lost its magic. One of the most obvious problems was that the existing phono stage didn't have enough gain, so I often had the volume all the way up, which meant there was also a lot of noise from the amplifier itself.

This unit solved all my problems. The gain is very high, lowering the overall system noise floor, and the response is ruler-flat. Now my entire collection sounds better than ever before. An added bonus is that I now hear (and feel) ultra-low bass that was simply not previously evident. I shudder to think how much more one would have to spend to audibly improve upon the performance of this preamp.
