Roll The Dice...

4 Stars
Posted Thursday, June 30, 2016 by audiofan The re-master here is superb (probably closer to "5-star" territory), but the reason I gave it 4 is because of a issue with the second track on side one (Dreamboat Annie (Fantasy Child). A friend purchased a copy at a local record shop, and there is a audible defect on this track which repeats at the same place on the LP within the first 4-5 revolutions before dying out. This is not a tick or popping sound, but is more like a "heartbeat/thump" -somewhat difficult to describe. My copy has the same defect - in the exact same place. There is also a minor tick or two during the first several seconds of this same track on BOTH discs...hence a pressing defect. Unfortunately, this is one of the quietest tracks on the album as well, so it's a bit annoying. However, the rest of the album is virtually flawless on both copies and sounds superb. So, roll the dice - you may get a better pressing.

Worth the wait !

5 Stars
Posted Thursday, March 13, 2014 by Anonymous This is a German pressing from Pallas. If you enjoyed "Sea Change" then you will enjoy this new release. "Morning Phase" is one of those albums that grows on you the more you listen to it. Seldom do I play a record over and over like I did in my youth, but this is an exception. This is an album that you can get lost in with repeated listenings. Quiet vinyl, beautiful harmonies, well recorded, wonderul song writing, layers of textures and deep, wide soundstaging. It's obvious great care was taken in the mastering of this record for vinyl. It's been a long time coming .... but worth the wait.

Atmospheric

4 Stars
Posted Tuesday, August 21, 2012 by Anonymous I would recommend this for the music and sound. Replaced my original. Even if you are not particularly into the Beach Boys, this is great atmospheric music.

FANTASTIC

4 Stars
Posted Friday, April 15, 2011 by BH The third Roxy Music album, introducing Eddie Jobson on violin and keyboards as a replacement for Eno. The album is more polished than the first two, but loses the irony, wit and avantgarde feel. Still, two of the band's greatest songs are on this record - Song For Europe and Mother of Pearl. For me, the best sounding songs on this vinyl edition are the slower pieces like Just Like You and Sunset where the black background offered by analogue sets the instruments off very nicely. Outstanding lead guitarist Manzanera is in great form on Amazona - and the sound is very good with strong channel separation and staging. I never quite understood the way that both sides finish with long slow pieces - abit of a downer. That said, Ferry's sometimes overdone vibrato comes across well on the vinyl!

The quality of the recording is EXCELLENT and the artwork featuring Marilyn Cole has been preserved well! The only reason I give it four stars is that it isnt in 45 rpm - but it sounds really good!

Very good sound quality

4 Stars
Posted Saturday, October 2, 2010 by Bryan Needless to say this is an absolutely excellent Roxy Music album with great songs like "The Thrill of It All", "Out of the Blue", "Casanova" and "A Really Good TIme" - and the good news is that the sound quality is very good, particularly on "Bitter Sweet" and "A Really Good Time" where Eddie Jobson's violin sounds fantastic. Not sure the poster is necessary - i would have to wonder who has that one up on their wall... If you are looking for the slick uber-produced sound from the later Roxy this one won't be for you - its less artsy than the first two, but still not conventional and definitely ahead of its time. You can see the trajectory of the band heading towards "Siren" and away from "Stranded."

I only give it four stars because while the sound quality is really good its not up to the 45rpm releases that have come out for other artists.
