Fantastic pressing

5 Stars
Posted Saturday, November 4, 2023 by Steve Whittaker I have owned several copies of this album in various formats since its original release and each listening has me immersed in its hypnotic soundscape. This pressing is by far the best experience I’ve had. Dead quiet, black background, fantastic soundstage and dynamics. Highly recommended.

Maybe a New Favorite

5 Stars
Posted Thursday, January 7, 2021 by Kevin First off, the record sounds perfect. This has been a record I loved since it originally came out and my older brother bought the original. I’ve been waiting for the reissue for a while. It’s my first MOFI. There are some disappointments though. Record 1 is not round and has some marks on the edge from the pressing process. Record 2 has the same marks. Both records came out of the sleeve very dusty and the MOFI anti- static sleeve was very solidly stuck to the record from static. Nitpicking I know and none of these issues effect the wonderful sound and recording. I had heard great things about MOFI’s, so I guess I’m a little surprised at some of the quality control issues. Overall, I anticipate heavy rotation on this one.

sacds with more channels

5 Stars
Posted Friday, June 12, 2020 by Peter.S. I have the remastered cd and now I bought the mofi sacd. The mofi sacd is just a little better than the remastered cd but that little bit makes a big difference in sound. If you like derek & the dominos than by all means buy this sacd. Like i said on all the reviews i think that they should make a three channel option because thats the way stereo was invented to be a three channel system. If you agree with me than go on mofis web site and let them know that you would like them to make sacd with more channels at least three they could even have a third option for a milti channel you know more than three channels for ambiance i just cant understand with all the space on the sacd why not use it it. Just a waist of space not to.I have many multi channel sacds and dvd audio plus blu ray music with high rez dts and dolby and stereo all on one blu ray also pcm multi channel why not have all these options on your music

three channels better than two

5 Stars
Posted Friday, June 12, 2020 by Peter.S. This is the third mofi sacd of dire straits i have and plan to by the last two sacds from this great song writing band and the sound just breath taking like the other two sacd from mofi are i never had any cds or records from them so i cant judge it from the original cd or record and i do not know if they were made from the master tapes like the mofi sacds are what i do know is they sound awesome great detail every instrument comes through and the voice just put together very well and like i said on my other reviews of dire straits I WISH MOFI and other record companys would start making at least three channel sacds as a option over two channel thats the way that stereo was meant to be heard thats how it was created not two channel the center was the anchor that held the other channels meaning the left and the right channel by doing this you don,t have to fuss that much over placement of your speakers and thats what its all about enjoying the music without much effort

Best version so far but...

4 Stars
Posted Saturday, January 11, 2020 by Mike Amazing version of this fave album of mine. The resolution, dynamics and added air is outstanding BUT why does MoFi keep on lifting the bass up (sometimes the top freq as well)? It is so out of context with the rest of freq spectrum. Why messing with the EQ likes this? I have this effect on several other MoFi pressings. As an example my Back in Black pressing is more enjoyable and with correct EQ though without the resolution and dynamics of the MoFi, but that is the version I stick to. Maybe people without full range systems will have different experience. Nowadays MoFi is hit and miss from so-so to outstanding...

Mono mix

5 Stars
Posted Saturday, August 10, 2019 by Anonymous Owning the original Stereo release on vinyl, I had never heard a mono mix before. After hearing this SACD, I prefer the mono mix over the stereo and this MoFi master does not disappoint!

Disappointed

3 Stars
Posted Tuesday, December 18, 2018 by Spinnin I found the sound to be dull at a lower volume and glaring at higher listening volumes. My wife made a comment about the sound being sharp as she passed by. I listened thru speakers and headphones and came away with the same conclusion. I have the Speakers Corner reissue of Crime of the Century which was described by a person of authority as epic thru my headphones. So much for the Grammy award for sound recording.

Good for SACD, but not great

3 Stars
Posted Friday, April 20, 2018 by Anonymous I purchased this title after being really impressed with the Mobile Fidelity SACD release of Carly Simon's "No Secrets," which sounds great. This SACD sounds a bit better than a good sounding CD release, but not great. It is relatively veiled - lacking clarity or depth. It really holds some of the songs back from being magic - "Dan, My Fling" in particular which would be amazing with great quality sound. It very well could be the original recording or degradation of the master tape over time (although I've heard older recordings sound much better.) The music itself is often good, but not as consistently good as No Secrets. If you already like the album this may be as good as it gets. It just isn't up to the sound standards of a great SACD.

Superb!!

Posted Monday, May 16, 2016 by Anonymous I've always loved this album, the DCC gold cd WAS my go to copy. When I saw that MoFi was releasing a sacd version I knew that I had to hear it. My opinion: this new sacd is a revelation, a very wide soundstage & great clarity with lots of detail. IMHO this sacd beats the DCC hands down. This may even be THE best sacd from MoFi so far! Five stars & my highest recommendation! I can't wait for Heartbeat City on sacd from MoFi.

Jefferson Airplane - Surrealistic Pillow Product No: AMOB 456

Better sounding than original RCA mono pressing!

5 Stars
Posted Monday, November 9, 2015 by JT I've just finished listening to this new 45rpm pressing Surrealistic Pillow and am blown away by how the record conveys warmth with detail while exhibiting a much bigger presence than the original 1967 RCA black label mono LP on my turntable. I must admit thought my system Is far from state of the art,(VPI classic Sound-Smith The Voice), but I think relieving enough to hear differences between pressings. I hope mofi redoes Crown of creation on 45 like they did to American Beauty. Highly recommended.

Worth The Wait!

5 Stars
Posted Friday, December 5, 2014 by GP I've been patiently waiting for this and its counterpart, Workingman's Dead, since announced about a year ago. I didn't think the folks at mofi could top what they did with Wake Of The Flood last year but it seems they have. I own every audiophile pressing including the original mofi LP but nothing comes remotely close to this 45. It's spectacular. Beautifully rich and perfectly balanced instruments and vocals spring to life from a dead silent background. One of those "ah ha" moments in audio when, although you've heard an album 1,000 times or more, it's as if you're hearing it for the first time. My copy was perfect....flat and quiet. Can't wait for Workingman's!

Amazing

5 Stars
Posted Friday, November 22, 2013 by Tony It would be pointless for me to write about the songs or to say this is one of the better albums of all time. I will say spend the $$$ for this one don't worry about the amount it's the most amazing analogue oriented mixes ever. You will get chills up and down your spine when you hear Will Love me Tomorrow and georgeous harmonies...so often through this album you will say this sounds so life like, so much like it would sound if Carole King was sitting in your livingroom playing the piano. You will often hear light harmonies and sounds you didn't hear on previous releases. I had the SACD by Sony and this one blows it away by miles and miles...i'm just amazed by this release and to be honest previoiusly i knew the album was great but never really cared for the mix now it's all changed...i like her voice up front and alot of piano...and you hear other instruments but this person or persons got it so right...don't deny yourself access to one of the
