Great sound, hit or miss pressing

BUT, even though it was pressed at RTI, sides 3 and 4 contain lots of distracting clicks that really distract from listening pleasure in the quiet passages especially. Shame.

Dead quiet vinyl, outstanding stereo width and depth, and superior clarity. This classic release is a must for any Miles fan and the performances and audio quality here are unbeatable. HIGHLY recommend.

Posted Wednesday, July 8, 2026 by Wised Be warned, the first copy I ordered was very cupped, I damaged it flattening it so I ordered a second which was perfect. The sound quality of this pressing is extraordinary even by today's best digital standards. How they achieved such almost imperceptible tape hiss in 1862 without noise reduction borders the miraculous. The dynamic range, transients, fidelity and clarity are by all measures of digital quality. To boot the music is excellent and cool!

Compared to the blue vinyl 33, this 45 gives the listener more musical information and more of an immersive listening experience. There’s just more beauty in the presentation. My Copy Was Dead Quiet — and I Got Completely Lost In It

That wasn't my experience at all. This pressing is dead silent with just a bit of the normal vinyl woosh. Flat vinyl, barely a click or pop, and a soundstage that just opens up wide and beautiful and pulls you in. I stopped thinking about the equipment completely and got lost in the vibe — which is exactly what Pharoah and the Floating Point Ensemble are going for. The interplay between his tenor and the orchestra hangs in the air and the quiet actually lands the way it should.

It is far superior to my Japanese EMI pressing, plus there is added material on the second and third discs and a very informative booklet included.

Over the years, I've had several formats of this release, including cassette but NONE compared to this! Every note produced on every instrument is crystal clear and sharp! It was like having George Benson in the room! Absolute silence with no noise on either disc. I've NEVER heard "This Masquerade" or any other track sound like they do on this version! Excellent production of the heavy gate-fold jacket as well! Thank you to Chad and the whole team!

Absolutely stunning sonically, nothing surprising considering who mastered it and who pressed it, well worth the price and highly recommended! Great dynamics on this date too.

I have a few used copies of this but this release goes to another level. I'll take Ella's Songbooks above everything else any day of the week. I can't understand why AP has not done any of Ella's songbooks on UHQR..Makes no sense.

I never would have thought that but here we are. Even if you aren't yet a Bill Evans fan...this is easily one of the greatest sounding jazz albums and most listenable jazz albums you will ever have in your collection. Like I said...I wasn't expecting it to be that out of this world but it is. Buy now...it will become a treasured piece in your collection.

Not quite top-tier as the vinyl isn't silent and actually a bit noisy between tracks and during solo/quiet passages. But overall still pretty good. Better than the original digital? Not exactly sure about that but worth having if you're a Big Fan like I am (see what I did there?).

Posted Sunday, January 25, 2026 by Randy This boxed set includes 3 releases of albums currently available (Cookin', Relaxin', and Steamin' - all are 2022 releases pressed at QRP).

The release of Miles appears to use the same plate as the recently released Craft Recordings versions of these albums, which is mastered by Kevin Gray (CR00722-A 43626.1(3)... KPG@CA). The only difference between the AP release and the Craft release appears to be pressing plant. However, the only proof I have is the rice paper QRP sleeve and a statement on the AS website. The jacket appears to be the same as the 1996 AP release of this title.

The release of Workin' appears to be different than the Craft Recordings release from a couple years ago. However, like the Craft release of the same title, Kevin Gray is the mastering engineer on this release. The jacket appears to be the same as the 1996 AP release of this title.
