Reference mastering

Posted Thursday, April 4, 2024 by Anonymous Comparing the earlier audiphile effort (DCC Gold cd / Steve Hoffman) this mastering can easily be better than that which widely considered to be a reference mastering among the audiophiles - to date. This has smoother, parallelly rich-in-detaills sound. Hardly any trace of a "forced digital processing" especially in treble. Eliminated distortion. Beautiful vocal sound. Sounds smoother than DCC Gold cd.. Airy and easy "light as feather" - very pleasant listening. Congrats Mr. Britton!

Posted Monday, March 25, 2024 by James Quite possibly the best SACD I have heard so far, and I have dozens of them. Right from the start, the music jumps out of the speakers. Every drum hit is sharp and precise, the backing vocals have remarkable presence, the bass is clean and not boomy. The whole recording sounds alive. I do not have expensive gear. I am playing the DSD layer from a Sony Blu-ray player over HDMI feeding a Yamaha receiver. I will likely buy the entire SD series eventually. If you're even thinking about it, go for it. You won't regret it.

It is a great album and it should like you are in the studio with the players. Do not miss out on this one. It may not be as appreciated as it should be but don't let that stop you from picking it up. Don't miss out.

Posted Saturday, June 24, 2023 by Anonymous Exceptional Product. I have an original vinyl 1st pressing ABC but wanted this digital edition mostly to rip to my phone. This red book edition was the best digital I have heard until I played the SACD. What separation and clarity of instruments! I loved the recent 1st album SACD and this might even be better sound quality which is as saying a lot. Definitely worth buying to have digital even for the red book edition only. I did not feel it necessary to spend $150 for the vinyl which might be out of your price range or you are OK with an original vinyl pressing. I am sure it is outrageously good though.

Takes you back to when music was music not the crap going around today.

Now in 2023 I have a killer sound system trust me when I say that.I’m listening to this sacd as I write this there are not enough words to describe what I’m listening to if you know this lp buy it you won’t be disappointed.don’t hesitate just buy it.

Posted Sunday, March 12, 2023 by Jimmy James Was blown away upon hearing this album back in 1977 and I'm still blown away in 2023. I think I bought this SACD last year but had misplaced in my collection. Found it on a rainy day and rejoiced. This recording is just sublime. Pat and Jaco were just the perfect pairing at the perfect time. Think what could have been had they remained together (and alive in Jaco's case) to have been creating this kind of music for almost 50 years. The world would be a different place. In case of this SACD treatment, the price of entry is a tough pill to swallow but it's totally worth it. There is truely more there, there. A whole lot more depth to the instruments. Jaco's bass has a much fuller, bolder sound. I always thought the original ECM cd sounded terrible but the music was too good for that to matter too much. Well, here that veilled, thin sound is gone thank goodness. Rejoice!

Posted Sunday, March 12, 2023 by Brian VanPelt Every instrument comes through loudly and with visceral force. It feels like the players are in the room with you, but then there is a little reverb, so the room feels bigger.

Eric Dolphy plays several instruments and comes out of the left channel, clear as a bell. The bass seems to be in the middle, while the cello and drums are in the right channel; although I think on one song the cello was in the left channel with Dolphy. You can feel the bass plucks in your gut. The drums can have powerful thwacks, with good cymbal decay. The cello can be gloriously searing.

There is no distortion, no tape hiss, just great sound. Just about a perfect SACD.
