Michael Rabin managed to be one of the most talented and tragic violin virtuosi of his generation. Hailed as a child prodigy, his talent matured gracefully into an adult level, but he failed to follow in his emotional growth, resulting in a cutting short of his career. He never reached the age of 36, yet remains one of the most fondly remembered of virtuoso violinists for listeners and fellow musicians. In the 1950s, Rabin signed with Capitol-EMI, for which he recorded the most important part of his legacy.

Brilliant performance, mediocre recording posted on 10/08/2011 4 Stars Reviewer: Mika Waller Without doubt, this is one of the finest interpretations of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto. Unfortunately, the recording quality is quite poor. The orchestral passages are often muddy, and sometimes distorted. Thankfully, Rabin's masterful violin comes through relatively cleanly. Those who are expecting a recording that sounds as good as "The Magic Bow" will be disappointed. Sound quality aside, Rabin's performance is superb and well worth the price of admission.

A real winner. posted on 08/03/2011 5 Stars Reviewer: David K. I, like many of you, have multiple recordings of the Tchaikovsky - Heifitz, Milstein, Perlman, etc. But this one transcends them all. Rabin was at his peak and although the orchestral passages may not be the most dynamic surely the violin music makes this a must-have recording. Very clean and quite surfaces, too.
