180-gram 45 RPM double LP

Mastered at AcousTech Mastering

Plated and pressed at Quality Record Pressings

It's back in stock! Newly repressed at 45 RPM by Quality Record Pressings. This recording was originally mastered at the former AcousTech Mastering facility and the sound is fantastic.

John Lee Hooker himself did not know his exact date of birth. If he hadn't died at around the age of 80, this ageless musician would still be easily pulling the next generation to his gigs. Hooker remains a phenomenon, a mysterious figure of black rhythm and blues, a charismatic king who reigns supreme in rock 'n' roll's Hall of Fame. John W. Peters described his music as a synthesis of scorching emotional ardour, unrelenting rhythmic intensity, and original poetry of a highly personal character. Anyone hearing him for the first time may well be startled at the unfiltered passion and power of his music.

And another surprise is in store for those who compare Hooker's late recordings with those made in the Sixties. His unmistakable, raw voice has fully matured, but his incantory style of singing appears markedly finer and more flexible. And then there is the perfect gem of a rhythm group whose sinewy sounds fill the grooves with merciless gravitational force. It's enough to make your spine tingle!

Well worth the money. It feels bigger than the room I listen to it in. I'll spare you with all of the nerd speak, but I will just say it's terrific. And the jacket is beautiful, too!

Well done!

Aside from being in the room with the man himself, which these LP's replicate extremely well, it don't get much better than this. Dead silent wax with clarity of vocals and true to live instrumentation like you rarely hear today on vinyl. It's been in heavy rotation since purchased and sure to be one of those records you will pull out to showcase your hifi system when you want to impress your friends.

This LP is the very heart and soul of mississippi blues. Great vinyl, fantastic recording, and John Lee in his prime. This was recorded in the mid 60's and is a real gem. It's a surprisingly good recording and lovengly remastered. All the little nuances of his voice and guitar finger work are there. With a good playback system it sounds like he's right there in the room with you. The first thinh I thought when I first heard it was "Oh my... , that's really good" When I play this in the morning I have John Lee going in my head all day long. If I had to limit myself to 1 blues LP this would be the one. It serves you right to suffer is worth every penny of it's somewhat hefty price. One review complained about the vinyl quality but my vinyl was perfect.

The jacket is gorgeous. It looks like Analogue Productions learned their lesson from those flimsy jackets they did for their Blue Note reissues. Kudos! The sound is wonderful; smooth, balanced and warm. My only regret is the physical record. It is not flat and wobbles during playback. I've noticed most of the AP impulse reissue surfer from this problem. The series seems to have been pressed at Pallas so I am not sure why the titles exhibit this problem, maybe the plant manager was not paying attention. What ever the reason it is inexcusable to experience this kind of quality control issue with a $50 audiophile record

Like the other reviewer said, a lot of emotion comes through. The spookiness is uncanny and made the hair on the back of my neck stand straight up. Get it while you can!
