X&Y is a big album in every sense of the word. The songs are huge. The music is sometimes quiet and intimate but at other times builds to a massive, layered sound that breaks new ground for Coldplay. The lyrics are about big subjects like life and death, love and loss, about being fascinated by the world around us but also about accepting that some things can never be fully understood. "In mathematics X and Y were always the answers, but in life no one knows," says frontman Chris Martin. "To me the album is about those unanswerable questions, and what you should do about the fact that you can't explain all the unknown variables."

Coldplay's sweet spot posted on 01/30/2013 5 Stars Just in terms of sound quality, this limited edition Coldplay pressing of X & Y is amazing. It's one of the best sounding vinyl records in my entire collection. It actually comes in a box housing the gatefold cover that makes it even more impressive from the moment you wrap your hands around it. The vinyl is extremely quiet and as another reviewer described, there are layers of sound that surround you when playing this record. It also comes with a large poster and the quality of the vinyl is excellent. Parachutes was a little soft, Cold Rush was maybe a bit too gainy, but they hit a home run with the mix on this one.

The only way to listen this album. posted on 09/03/2008 5 Stars Reviewer: ErikC This is the only Coldplay album I like and this release completely demolishes the CD in terms of sound. There are so many textures apparent on the vinyl release that are just blobs of noise on the CD. There is even some major toe tappin' bass that was apparently too much for the CD to handle. Definitely worth the price!
