Muddy and compressed to all heck and back posted on 03/07/2010 1 Stars Nope, this is one terribly mastered album. Loud from the get go with absolutely ZERO dynamic range, none, nada. I was pleased with Devils and Dust and the Seger Sessions on LP as well as The Rising on CD. Looks like the Boss got a bad job done on this dog.

Brendan O'Brien posted on 11/27/2008 5 Stars You guys are nuts. Brendan O'Brien is a genius. His productions are unique, not cookie cutter clean shimmery modern sounding nonsense. His vintage vibe is exceptional. Listen to this record with old Zeppelin and actual room sounding drums in mind and you'll get it. Not everything needs to be so shiny and polished sounding. Give your ears a break. Embrace the harmonic distortion!!!

Very muddy sound, & vinyl in less than perfect condition. My copy had several raised bumps on the outer edges, & was not clean. I also thought at first that I had simply received a bad pressing, but a short time later, a co-worker had purchased the CD which also had lousy sound quality. It's really a shame because here you have one of Rock & Roll's greatest artists of all time with a terribly produced record. Save your money & buy a different title.

Pretty bad sound, but better than the cd posted on 12/20/2007 4 Stars The music here is very good and clearly held back by the production of Brendan O'Brien. That being said, if you are tired of the highs in the cd tearing at your ears,turn to the vinyl and this record becomes listenable. The record is well pressed.

Great Songs Lousy Production posted on 10/10/2007 4 Stars Reviewer: Sticksnhands After listening to the Boss for over 30 years I was very dissapointed in the production of this latest album. I actually got up to check if a "High Cut" switch was on by mistake. The over all sound is muddy and muffled on the 180 gram vinyl pressing. After speaking with our local independant record store owner; thinking that it was just a crappy pressing from Columbia Records, I find out that this "producer" is responsible for this audio dud. What a shame, the songs are wonderful but everything is buried under a layer of cotton. I've listened to other songs from the album on Sirius Radio and they sound the same. What a drag. I recently got the Hammersmith Live CD and what a difference, clean, clear and bright. So buyer beware. Peace.
