John Moreland - Big Bad Luv

John Moreland, the Tulsa, Okla.-based singer-songwriter whose notable fans range from Miranda Lambert to Rachel Maddow, recorded his first solo album in 2011, Earthbound Blues. High on Tulsa Heat dropped in 2015. Moreland says he started out playing in hardcore punk bands before he started listening to music his father introduced him to, mostly folk and country.

In 2017 Moreland released Big Bad Luv. A record about love, faith and the human condition, it was his debut for the 4AD label, and his first worldwide release.

Big Bad Luv, was recorded in Little Rock, Arkansas, and mostly with a crew of Tulsa friends: John Calvin Abney (piano and guitar), Aaron Boehler (bass), Paddy Ryan (drums), Jared Tyler (dobro) and Lucero's Rick Steff (piano). Coming together in three sessions throughout 10 months, which were sandwiched between touring dates and life, the final album was then mixed by Grammy-winning Tchad Blake, who has worked with iconic acts from Al Green to Tom Waits.
