One of the most debated and sought after audiophile titles that has graced many Top Ten high-end lists for decades. This quirky soundtrack, to the equally quirky James Bond spoof by director John Huston features the music and arrangements by the prolific and very hip Burt Bacharach. The highlight of the set is the breathy rendition by the late Dusty Springfield on The Look Of Love. The main theme and supporting incidental music by a young engineer, but soon to be super-producer Phil Ramone, is still stunning even thirty years later.

What a wonderful album, it is so fun and sounds so great! Having never heard it before, I took a gamble (no pun intended) and it payed off big time. The instrumentals are exciting, inventive, and so uplifting- a true dose of acoustic happiness. Dusty Springfield's contribution is also extraordinary. Highly recommended, there most likely will not be a better transfer so just go for it.

Better first time?

New Bond remake of this old, off-kilter classic movie due out soon. I doubt if the soundtrack will match this one's ,bright and bouncy take - all the more appreciated in a well remixed 5.1 version.

Maybe this just isn't my kind of music

I bought this for the Dusty Springfield vocal on 'The Look of Love". Once again the engineers did a wonderful job of caputuring the sound of master tapes. However, this is a movie sound track and I don't think the quality of the original recording is all that great. It is not terrible, it's good enough for a movie theater, but when played at home with a high end home theater rig ... Well, I just was not enthused. I also have to admit this is not my favorite musical genre.

Bottom line; I just feel that to expose the capabilities of HDAD it is better to start out with a higher quality recording.

Do not misunderstand what I'm saying. This is not a 'bad' recording, but it is not an awesome recording.

Just how good can digital sound?

For now this is it, easily the best two channel digital recording I have heard. Produced wonderful soundstage and amazing realistic qualities to the music and vocals. Gave it four stars for the fact that there are basically two songs on the disk (theme to the movie and look of love) the rest are instrumental repeats. Why can't they make more of these!

This has to be the closest in sound quality to my reel to reel and vinyl copy. A lot better than the 16 bit CD.
