I've Got the World On A String is not only the title of this album, but was literally Louis' relationship to the world during his career. It would be difficult to find another figure in the arts, politics, science, business or any other endeavor who was as well known as Pops, Satch, or, if you like, just plain Louis. Louis Armstrong captured the essence of human relations in what he did: the feeling, the mood, the spirit, the hope of mankind. Just as there is timelessness in Louis' talents, so have tunes been selected which, if they don't have timelessness, at least have established themselves as standards for a long period of time and whose moods evoke the same feelings, in essence, as Louis' singing.
