Late in his seventies, John Lee Hooker was still out grinding, bringing his blues to whoever would still hear them. By his 80s, that meant not a huge audience, but a loyal one. At least until his record label hit upon a winning formula: pairing the original Boogie Chile up with high profile guests who worshiped at the altar of one of the meantest guitar players to ever walk on two feet.

The best of these albums was 1998's Best of Friends, which boasted guest stars such as Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, and Santana, among others. It's never been on vinyl until now.
