DSD file created by Gus Skinas from the original DSD audio used to create the existing SACD.

"Madman Across the Water
is driven by the sweeping string arrangements of Paul Buckmaster, who gives the songs here a richly dark and haunting edge. And these are songs that benefit from grandiose treatments. With most songs clocking in around five minutes, the record feels like a major work, and in many ways it is. While it’s not as adventurous as Tumbleweed Connection, the overall quality of the record is very high, particularly on character sketches "Levon" and "Razor Face," as well as the melodramatic "Tiny Dancer" and the paranoid title track." - All Music Guide

I love Tiny dancer and Levon, and that is why I purchased it. Now I have listened to it in its entirety. I find myself powerless to get out of my chair on tracks I didn't even like before because they sound amazing; Holliday Inn for example is just a jewl of high fidelity!

This was my first DSD purchase, so I can't give you a comparison to any other DSD files just yet. I'm a vinyl guy. Having said that, this is an absolutely stunning recording from 1971 and DSD captures everything the Elton John band was trying to lay down in the Trident studios. I have Flac files from Cat Stevens and another Elton album; Yellow Brick Road. Both sound bloody amazing, but nowhere near as good as this. I can't wait for my next DSD download.

I was reluctant to buy an old album that I only liked maybe three songs on..."Levon", "Madman" and maybe "Tiny dancer" if I was in the mood. I soon discovered the haunting "Indian Sunset", "Rotten Peaches", "All the Nasties" and my absolute new favorite: "Holiday Inn"...which I listen to more than "Levon" now. If you were on the fence about this download, get off the fence and just get it. Life's too short.

DSD is the Sh*t !!!

Had a chance to compare it to sacd and 180g vinyl. It is definitely better than the sacd in every way. The dynamic range has improved as well. It not as good as some dsd downloads, but you can't expect much more with compressed pop/rock music from the 70's. Fundamentally, it sounds as good or better than the vinyl. The DSD sounds harmonically more correct and smoother, although the vinyl is a touch warmer. If you are looking for a hi-rez digital version this is the one to get.
