Twin Sons of Different Mothers is the fifth album by American singer/songwriter Dan Fogelberg, released in 1978. The album was the first of Fogelberg's two collaborations with jazz flautist Tim Weisberg.

Weisberg is one of the pioneers in rock/jazz fusion who's incredible career includes 20 albums on the biggest record labels in the business including A&M, Columbia, Warner Brothers, and MCA. He has sold over 5 million albums and played some of the largest venues in the world. With the gifted singer, songwriter, Dan Fogelberg, off their platinum album Twin Sons Of Different Mothers came the hit "The Power of Gold." Tim's bands are legendary and have been known as a proving ground for the likes of David Benoit, Art Johnson, and Chuck Alvarez. Although he is classified by the recording industry as jazz, Tim's music has always been somewhere between rock and jazz.

Dan Fogelberg was an American singer-songwriter, composer, and multi-instrumentalist whose music was inspired by sources as diverse as folk, pop, rock, classical, jazz, and bluegrass. He is best known for his 1980 hit "Longer" and his 1981 hit "Leader of the Band."

"As experimental as the album appeared on the surface, it was the perfect mix of jazz-tinged instrumental music and folk- and country-inspired pop/rock. Proving that ambitious collaborations between artists who seek to mix genres needn't result in the commercial disappointment that many expect, the album yielded the hit 'The Power of Gold,' which further augmented Fogelberg's commercial clout. The album, like its predecessor, Nether Lands, is beautifully produced, is best listened to as a complete effort, and still sounds strong all these years later." All Music Guide

If people recall, this was a hot album when it was released. Many questioned Dan Foglelburg's motive for recording this type of album. But any fan of Dan's after listening once suddenly knew why. It was, and still is, a great collaboration. This is a gold CD and as those who own gold CD's know, these open up things to the ear that regular CD's do not seem to capture. The instrumentation is simply fantastic. The last two tracks are worth the cost alone, one being "The Power of Gold." I would like to see more of Dan Fogleburg's catalog released again in either DTS, SACD, SHM, or K2 mastering. This is a must have purchase for anyone who likes a nice easy-going listening CD. Simply fantastic.
