Lynyrd Skynyrd - Second Helping

200-gram vinyl pressing by Quality Record Pressings!

Mastered by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio from the original analog tapes

Sleeved in a deluxe tip-on gatefold jacket

"MoFi may have the rest of their catalogue, but Chad Kassem's coup is grabbing this album, the band's second, from 1974. Why? Because it kicks off with their anthem, the inimitable, riff-driven, majestic 'Sweet Home Alabama' — one of the greatest air-guitar/road trip songs ever. By this time, the band was a mite slicker but just as unapologetically Confederate-with-a-capital 'C' as on their debut. The opener does overshadow the rest, but the album serves up what the LP title promises in 'The Needle And The Spoon,' which sounds like 'Sweet Home Alabama II.' Musically, this nestles alongside Little Feat and The Allman Brothers Band — deservedly high praise." — Ken Kessler, Hi-Fi News, April 2014

Get ready for some Southern hospitality, courtesy of Analogue Productions, Quality Record Pressings and one of the hardest-rocking bands to ever grace a stage! With a catalog of over 60 albums and sales beyond 30 million, Lynyrd Skynyrd remains a cultural icon that appeals to all generations.

This Lynyrd Skynyrd 1974 album follows the success of "Free Bird" and "Gimme Three Steps" from their 1973 debut and features their biggest hit single, "Sweet Home Alabama," an answer to Neil Young's "Southern Man" and "Alabama." The song reached No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in August 1974. Second Helping also featured "Don't Ask Me No Questions," "Workin' for MCA" and "Call Me The Breeze," the latter of which includes an acclaimed piano solo. Backed by a tight rhythm section and the mighty three-guitar attack of Allen Collins, Ed King and Gary Rossington, singer Ronnie Van Zant turns in a legendary performance on the urgent blues ballad "I Need You," the cautionary "The Needle And The Spoon" and "The Ballad Of Curtis Loew." 200-gram vinyl, mastering by Kevin Gray, lacquer plating by QRP's Gary Salstrom, heavy, tip-on gatefold jacket. None better.

This is one of the best sounding 33 records in my collection. Absolute perfection. I just ordered Pronounced and went with the 45 version. I really want to see if it sounds better than this. It's going to be a tough test.

It's funny, I never thought I was more than a casual fan of LS. I picked this up to fill a hole in my collection - Southern rock. But, I have to say, this music is timeless. I find myself playing this far more than I thought I would.

With all due respect to the DBT these boys Collins, rossington, and King leave u in the dust. Bit of trivia Ed King was the guitar player on the Strawberry Alarm Clocks massive hit Incense and Peppermint. Fantastic piece of vinyl. Flat, quite with dynamic sound. The guitars explode out of the mix with Ronnie snarling on top of them.Buy now.

I picked up an original "Sounds Of The South" pressing in anticipation of receiving my first Analogue Productions title of a long time favorite. I was able to hear much deeper into the backgrounds of this music due to the absolute perfection of this vinyl. This new Analogue Productions pressing is stunning.

We bought both Second Helping and Nuthin' Fancy, and could not be happier. Wonderful pressings, amazing quality of sound, brilliant mastering, and beautiful artwork. We have come to expect nothing short of perfection from Anologue Productions, and they never let us down. If you really love vinyl and are as particular about quality as I am then you must find a title you love from Anologue Productions; you will not be sorry, but you will want more believe me. I'm going to slowly get what I can from these folks because these pressings are the best money can buy. Lynyrd Skynyrd never sounded so good....

I will have to agree with the other guys. I have not written a review here in quite some time but, as I listen to this pressing, I felt compelled to. I own an original copy and the geffen re-issue of this album. This version by QRP blows them both away. I have listened to this album hundereds of times on several different systems from high to low. I thought I knew every detail of this album but, I am hearing details that I didn't notice before. I would highly reccomend this pressing to any fan of skynyrd who doesn't own this on vinyl. Even if you do own it on vinyl, this version is better. Record is flat as it can possibly be and surface noise just isnt there. Just black backgrounds. QRP hits another home run. Very pleased to say the least

Don't overlook this Gem!

I've listened to Lynyrd Skynyrd since they came on the scene and I've listened to this album hundreds of times on a variety systems. My system is not a super high end audio system but when I put this on it truly made what was a good system sound unbelievable. QRP has out done themselves AGAIN! the mastering is impeccable.

Kevin Gray has never let me down. This time he's managed to transport me back to 1974,when at 15-16 years-old, I first heard Skynyrd coming from a friend's car 8 track. The clarity is breathtaking, yet no bottom end is lost...in fact it's sweetened. Leon's bass is front and center throughout. I haven't had a record touch my emotions like this in a very long time. Do NOT hesitate grabbing a copy of this !!!
