| This classic, brought to new life on this 45 rpm pressing, starts off with a great upbeat blues number, but then mellows out throughout. And what sweet mellow to savor here, delivered by two master tenor saxophonists - Hawkins, the elder statesman and his protégé (among several such protégés), Ben Webster, take you on an oh- so-sweet musical journey, backed by the Oscar Peterson troupe (Oscar - piano, Herb Ellis - guitar and Ray Brown - bass). Alvin Stoller, a sought after drummer in the 1940s - 1950s, provides faithful backing to the ensemble. The chemistry between Hawkins and Webster is palpable and unparalleled. The recording itself is beautifully staged, with the presence of the musicians very real. You can hear the breath trail off the reeds at the end of the solo bars. These guys are literally resurrected in your living room (a good system needed, of course). A highly recommended masterpiece.
