"On this EP, former Animals singer Eric Burdon — who seemed to have disappeared until Bruce Springsteen invited him onstage at SXSW in March — teams with Cincinnati garage-rock trio the Greenhornes for 17 minutes of raw, rugged fun. Producer Brendan Benson lets the volume needle rock the red zone as the combo blasts through bruising meditations on dread and despair; 'Cab Driver' edges close to Muslim-bashing, but 'Out of My Mind' evokes the haunted blues Burdon's always done well. Ragged isn't always right here, but this taste leaves you wanting more." - Rolling Stone
A blues-rock pioneer, Eric Burdon hit the scene as frontman for The Animals back in 1962. After 10 albums and giant, generation-defining singles like "House of the Rising Sun" and "We Got to Get Out of This Place," Burdon then joined up with funk favorites War; he sang on and produced War's first big hit, "Spill the Wine," and three full albums. Since then, Burdon has consistently worked, collaborating with various players (including Jimmy Witherspoon and Brian Auger), dropping solo albums, touring the festival circuit, and expanding his lengthy acting resume. Now 72, he teams up here with Cincinnati garage rockers The Greenhornes, best known as the rhythm section of The Raconteurs. Though just four tracks long and clocking in at less than 20 minutes, this great EP shows a seasoned veteran meeting youthful exuberance, with heavy riffs and charismatic storytelling galore.
