WoW !!

Posted Saturday, February 24, 2024 by Anonymous I've listened to all of these songs from various formats (LPs, CDs, etc) and never heard the depth and clarity of sound as I just experienced listening to this pressing. Outstanding job Abbey Roads.

Beautiful music transcends genre, sounds great on vinyl

5 Stars
Posted Thursday, August 24, 2023 by Ron from Kenosha WI I'm more of a jazz, rock, classical, and soul fan, but this Willie Nelson record featuring Emmylou Harris and produced by Daniel Lanois transcends genres and really appeals to a wide cross-section of music lovers. I think Willie is 65 here, and his voice still sounds really good. The recording is really well-done and sounds terrific on vinyl - warm, airy, nice soundstage. I have the CD also, which sounds very good, but to my ears the vinyl beats it (even if the original recording was digital, which I don't know).

It's not an audiophile pressing. Clarity and instrument separation are very good for a standard-price pressing, but not at the level of, say, Analogue Productions/QRP or Speakers Corner. There's a bit of surface noise, but it's easy to tune out. These issues are minor, and for the money you're getting a gorgeous sounding LP.

Highly recommended.

Fantastic Pressing, Great Sound!

5 Stars
Posted Wednesday, September 7, 2022 by Joseph Roth If you love this album and don't have a clean copy that hasn't been battered by time and teenage fandom, get this! It has punch, it has warmth, it has the Edge up and front, and the Eno/Lanois production really shines. Thanks and great work!

Absolute master piece

5 Stars
Posted Tuesday, July 19, 2022 by Chevan G Purchased the album a few weeks ago. Received it

however did not receive the tag in front cover which

states half speed mastering from Abey. A bit

disappointing.

Album quality however is fantastic a must have for the

Abbey Road half speed mastering collection.

Best Available

Posted Wednesday, February 23, 2022 by Robert Hildebrandt Without question this is the best available and perhaps the best ever version of this classic LP. I had the UK original in the late 60's and more recently Japan CD Mono and Stereo SHM-CD versions. The Stereo CD mix is a superb rendition but the remastered LP is just breathtaking and quite superior. The bottom end is tight but with lots of volume and there is no diminution of the crisp top end allowing instruments like tambourine and cymbals to be clear in the playback. The vocals are in the room. Very highly recommended.

JB must live!

4 Stars
Posted Sunday, September 19, 2021 by Robert Hildebrandt This european pressing from the master tapes is crisp but full in the bottom end. The original version was slightly muddy but the remaster from the original tapes is full of detail. The packaging is one star below because the original was a fold out with the superb centre colour image and also was more like a real cardboard texture. This time there is no fold-out but the centre picture is provided as a poster. Very impressed by how quiet this pressing was.

Mediocre

2 Stars
Posted Saturday, April 10, 2021 by Brian VanPelt I don't know if it's it the recording or the pressing, but the sound is pretty dull. There is almost no dynamic range, and no bass to speak of. Overall, there are maybe 2 or 3 passable-sounding songs - as the quality seems to change from song-to-song.

Years ago, I bought Exodus and the same thing happened, and I know I am not nearly the only one with this issue. If you too had experienced a lifeless Exodus, then you know exactly what you are getting on this album.

Half-speed mastered means nothing here.

Bob Marley and The Wailers - Songs Of Freedom: The Island Years Product No: AISL 9401
Available: InStock
Category: Vinyl Box Sets
Label: Island Records

4 Stars
Posted Saturday, March 13, 2021 by KevinJ excellent sound quality. Definitely a improvement on the two previously released cd box set versions. However I'm only giving it 4 stars because the original versions had the early Trojan tracks as well wich is sad because not including them on these only does a disservice to the fans. Also it might be a little bass heavy for some ,slightly.

Great album but poor pressing

2 Stars
Posted Saturday, December 22, 2018 by Anonymous I’ve always loved this album. I still have my old original 1986 copy, but it’s taken some abuse since I was a kid. I was excited to see a new pressing available. Unfortunately, it sounds pretty awful. It’s muddy and veiled, as well as very noisy. My old copy, despite all the scratches, sounds much better. After cleaning both, same results. Hunt down a used copy of this album. One turned up here a few weeks- and I bought it. The second star is for the music itself and for its availability in general.

Great Album but Subpar Pressing

3 Stars
Posted Tuesday, October 6, 2015 by Anonymous If you can find the original Marley LP's from the 70's, get them. They are superb pressings. The reissues, and I've bought many of them have really lacked in quality, including this new batch from 2015.

I don't know why the Marley reissues suffer from poor sound quality, but they do and I find it frustrating. I was hoping these latest reissues would be the ticket but once again, I've been very dissatisfied.

Horrible pressing

2 Stars
Posted Thursday, November 21, 2013 by Anonymous I bought and returned this three times trying to get a copy that was not noisy. All copies had loud ticks and plenty of surface noise on side 2. They need to fix this. What a shame.

Bad not breaking in remastering

5 Stars
Posted Friday, February 1, 2013 by Carey I purchased all the U2 reissues here even though I already own most of the originals. On this pressing the vinyl is fairly quiet and that adds something my original version no longer has. I tried listening to the difference between the original and the reissue by flipping between records and playing Bad, the second track on side two. This really revealed the differences between the original and the reissue. Where the original seems to have a warmer quality, the reissue is tighter, more precise and less out of control during portions of the song. The bass guitar is much more loose on the original pressing. On the reissue, the drum cymbals aren't quite as bright, but they don't suffer the same type of uncontrolled crashing toward the end of the song. Overall the reissue is cleaned up. Bono's vocals lose a bit of warmth in his quieter moments but gain better definition when he really gets going. This reissue is a much better choice if you intend to listen at higher volume level.

Posted Tuesday, October 14, 2008 by Anonymous I never thought I'd see this on Vinyl again. Recorded at Red Rocks, Colorado and St. Goarshausen, Germany during the 1983 "War" tour, "Under a Blood Red Sky" shows just how great the young U2 actually were. I just hope that as part of their U2 reissues Island re-release the even better "Wide Awake in America" E.P. My original copy is showing it's age.
