A hot tub party for your records

Posted Saturday, July 11, 2009 by Mike Rahill, Oklahoma City An elegant, simple, & inexpensive answer to a vexing problem. I can't believe it took me so long to discover this thing, since apparently they've been making them in Pittsburgh since 1968! It's like a great kitchen gadget- I couldn't live without a pepper mill or mortar & pestle, but I don't need a motor on them either. Lately I've had incredible luck with rare vintage thrift store finds- NM to Ex+, but filthy. They've been piling up, then I got this thing. It's actually fun to clean them! Farm dirt, lichens, fingerprints, petrified popsicle drips, even Precambrian mollusks dissolve & sink to the bottom, leaving the fluid clear & the label dry. Hold up that 1958 Audio Fidelity copy of Mohammed El-Bakkar's 'Port Said', stare in disbelief at the cover, then say, "Her life is in your hands, dude." But then you must say, "Jesus, man, could you change the channel? Man, come on, I had a rough night, and I hate the f#@%*n' Eagles, man!

An Absolute Must for Vinyl Lovers

5 Stars
Posted Saturday, October 2, 2004 by Henry I've used my VPI 16.5 for more than 7 years now and still consider it to be the single most important component in my analog front end. Unless you have personally heard the difference a good "wet wash" can make, it is difficult to describe. Suffice to say that much of what most people believe are record scratches and wear, i.e., the pops, clicks and other noise nasties that plague vinyl playback, are not that at all. It is the dreaded "groove grunge," dirt, oil, vinyl slivers and other contaminents buried deep into the grooves of your treasured LPs. Only a good vacuum cleaner, such as the VPIs, can safely remove this grunge, and surface static electricity, too, and make your LPs sound new again. I cannot recommend this component too highly.
