January of 1968 brought Axis: Bold As Love, an album that expanded Jimi's six-string flame with celestial clarity and also brought his rapidly evolving songwriting gift to the fore. It was recorded at Olympic Studios in London.

After the U.S. release of Are You Experienced and American tour dates that left jaws dropped, anticipation was very high about the next Jimi Hendrix album. Many fans and critics consider this follow up, Axis: Bold As Love, his best collective effort. Released in November of 1968, it immediately garnered high praise for it’s incredible performances and innovative engineering by Eddie Kramer. The album was to spawn many hits including "Up From The Skies," "If 6 was 9," "Spanish Castle Magic," "Little Wing," and "Castles Made of Sand," among others. Again joined by Noel Redding’s bass and Mitch Mitchell on drums. This Track Edition is exclusively presented here by Classic, mastered directly from the original MONO master tapes. Original 1968 mono copies of this title on Reprise, bring as much as a staggering $1400 - $2000 if they can be found.

As a 50 year old, I am for some reason coming to deep Hendrix appreciation this late in life. Sure, The Best of Jimmy Hendrix got heavy rotation during college keggars. This record has afforded me the opportunity to gain a far more fundamental appreciation of his music than I ever have had before. I have come to understand that the pieces...somehow it is not fair to call them songs...are more like sketches. In some regard, it is very close to jazz, which may also have much to do with Mitch Mitchell's drumming, who I now think is one of my favorite rock drummers (Makes me wonder what Elvin Jones would have thought of Mitch's drumming.)

Well clearly I was born too late (sept. 19 1972). My record collection is mostly a small sampling of that golden rennaisance of blues rock that was the sixties. I've got plenty of Hendrix Cd's all over the place, but nothing compares to this particular cut of this astounding album. I hadn't read that it was a mono recording and was at first disappointed when I got it in the mail. Then I played it and discovered the fantastic engineering that this album reveals, in glorious mono! Creepy album art, tripped out experimental music, brilliant lyrics and melodies, and that searing sonic boom that must be Jimi's guitar. This album rules.

Sounds great! Lots of punch and very quiet playing surface. Would recommend instead of paying the 1500 bucks for the original.

What can I say? The music speaks for itself. After listening to the stereo version of this on CD a million times, it's refreshing to hear the subtle differences on the mono mix. Great liner notes and sweet 200 gram pressing all the way down to the reproduction of the LP label. This is the real thing.

You would not be looking here if you did´nt know the music. The fact is the guy was a genius and this album just might be he´s best (album wise). So let´s cut to the chase!

I have been picking up quite a few Bernie Groundman cuts over the last couple of months. From Zeppelin to Doors to Kind of blue. In other words mostly the Classic records 200 gram vinyl profile (Note, The Doors was not on this). It has been quite interesting.

This mono version ranks among the highest of the bunch. I have never been so close to feel I was in the studio with the band, as last night when I played this album with a friend.

This is a rare chance to a super copy of an ultra rare experience. The original as you may know is hard to get your hands on in a fair condition.

From my part, Thanks to Groundman, to Classic for actually keep the vinyl ALL quite this time and thanks to Acustic sounds for the fast and secure delivery (I live in Danemark and I got my discs in 2 days).

I believe the word is WOW

I will never side with Mono or Stereo, and this LP(title) is an amazing example of both, and why nobody ever should. There should definately be more mono reissues as I enjoy Dylan and Cream mixed this way as well, but I am not bummed out that Pearl Jam probrably never recorded Ten in mono or anything like that. All that being said, understand that I bought this thinking it would be neat to hear. Now, if someone took all my records and I was only allowed cds for the rest of my life, take the zeppelin and dylan boxed sets and all the rest, but leave me this LP.

What a sweet album. The best part is the songs haven't been overplayed on greatest hits compilations. Sound-Superb! Overall I'd give this an 11/10.
