"Completed in 1944 and based on an Australian aboriginal dance ceremony of the same name witnessed by the composer when he was a child, Corroboree is a cinematic 'world music' extravaganza written decades before the term was coined…this musical and sonic thrill ride is not to be missed." Stereophile Records To Die For – Michael Fremer, Stereophile, February 2008
Sir Eugene Goossens conducts the London Symphony Orchestra performing John Antill's Corroboree and Alberto Ginastera's Panambi.
In 1947, Sir Eugene Goossens gave the first performance of this composition that documents the Australian Aboriginal dance known as a Corroboree. In 1960, Goossens and The London Symphony Orchestra recorded for Everest this magnificent - possibly the best ever - performance of Corroboree, even better than the famous EMI recording of the same piece from 1977. Meticulously cut from the original 3-track masters, this rare audiophile collectible is available again.
