"…This is easily the best sounding edition of this record that I've heard yet. It's warm, yet detailed, three dimensional and harmonically full. Taylor's vocals are cleanly rendered as are the sibilants. Finally a clean 'Steamroller'!…No doubt you can find cheap originals but none will approach the rich and detailed, three dimensional sound of this reissue…A superb reissue in every way that's simply meant to be heard on AAA vinyl. Don't miss it!" Music = 10/11; Sound = 10/11 – Michael Fremer, Music Angle, www.musicangle.com

Though James Taylor's self-titled debut introduced his mellow melodicism and affecting song craft, Sweet Baby James was the album that rocketed him to national recognition. With Sweet Baby James, Taylor abandoned the slightly psychedelic structural ambition of his first record and settled fully into the folk and country styles to which he is best suited. The Top Ten hit "Fire and Rain," for instance, a deeply personal story-song based on the artist's experiences in mental hospitals and the suicide of a friend, is built around Taylor's gentle, understated voice, acoustic guitar, cello, piano and drums. Sweet Baby James is Taylor's definitive statement and one of the most influential albums in the singer-songwriter genre.

I did. Sure I paid $24.98 but I suggest that you steal it now for 25 buck$ or pay $75.00 on eBay for an EX+ copy later. I never bought this album in 1970 because my old girl friend owned it. So it has been 37 years since I have heard it. It was worth the wait; simply a record to live for. Warner Bros have recorded “wooden” music here perfectly. The sound is clear and distinct. You want to listen to more music recorded like this all day. I am looking forward to more of these releases by Warner Bros.

This is one I've been waiting for and it does not disappoint. I have several original WB green labels of this record and this reissue is superb. Best I've ever heard Sweet Baby James sound.

I have heard other Steve Hoffman masterings before, so I knew what to expect with this one. And boy, did it deliver! If you think you know what "Fire and Rain" really sounds like from an older LP or CD, think again; the dynamics astound and are better than I've ever heard this song. Same goes for the whole album. The vinyl is dead quiet, as well. You truly can not go wrong with this title. Can't wait for "Rumours"!

If "Blue" and "Sweet Baby James" are any indication, my bank account is in serious danger. There is a lot of amazing music on those old WB green and Reprise tan labels, and if the reissues all sound like this one, I'll have to have them all.

A reviewer above nailed it: Warner Bros. knew how to record acoustic music so that it had real punch. "Sweet Baby James" is no exception. Highly recommended.
