The so-called Brandenburg Concertos are a collection of six instrumental works which J.S. Bach wrote during his time as "Hofkapellmeister" in Cothen. He dedicated them to Margrave Christian Ludwig of Brandenburg. Every single concerto is an interpretation for a variety of instrumentation. Throughout these works Bach portrays the progressive style of Italian instrumental finesse, which he greatly admired. ARTS now presents a beautiful set of recordings, in superb SACD sound, of the Brandenburg Concertos performed by the ensemble I Barocchisti. In existence since the 1950s, this ensemble has dedicated itself to the rediscovery of forgotten Baroque music and giving committed, authentic interpretations of great works such as the Brandenburgs. I Barocchisti perform in various groupings ranging from five to 40 members from Switzerland and Italy, all with comprehensive concert experience as soloists and as chamber musicians.
