"…This newest Aqualung is the definitive version and if you love this record, it's worth the money. You will hear musical details and colors not previously revealed on any other version and Mr. Anderson's vocals will literally be in your lap, they are so purely and intimately rendered on Bellman's cut. On no other version do the acoustic guitars have both believable attack and sustain." Music = 9/11; Sound = 9/11 – Michael Fremer, www.musicangle.com

The ultra-classic Aqualung cut from the original analog master tapes and pressed on 200-gram vinyl at RTI. The release features, for the first time since the original Chrysalis release, an authentic linen textured gatefold jacket and original label art. Really, does it get any better?

After Thirty Years The Tull Still Kicks Ass posted on 06/14/2007

I just finished listening to an RTI remastered copy of Jethro Tull's "Aqualung" which I thoroughly enjoyed. The fidelity's not bad, but certainly unexceptional. And I was not overjoyed to have waited as long as I did for this album -- it was forever being reposted as a preorder.

However, now that I have it I'm glad I waited. The Tull still kick ass three decades after their inception, with a unique sound that is distinctively all their own.

For me the two groups that clearly stood out as a result of their own musical signatures back in the 1970's were Jethro Tull and Steely Dan.

Sure there were others as well, but these two were no brainers.

Another good recommendation, Chad.

Thanks, Jim

Finally the perfect version of this great album posted on 06/15/2007

I can't remember how many versions (lp, tape, cd) of Aqualung I have purchased over the years including all the "remasters". Like the previous reviewer, I had heightened expectations for this "ultimate" version but it got somewhat dampened by all the "Classic Records" shipping delays. So just in time for Father's Day it arrived on my doorstep and upon first spin is amazing. My original Reprise (brown lbl) is getting somewhat noisier every listen but holds up well to this release. All in all, if you are a fan of Aqualung, you will appreciate listening to a clean, quiet and wonderful sounding ultimate perhaps perfect version of this masterpiece.

At last, after over 30 years; an outstanding edition of Aqualung. Thank you!

Too much hype! posted on 08/19/2008

I purchased this classic records 200 gram reissue recently after reading so much hype over this "definitive pressing". I do not get the excitement going on about this release. In my opinion, there is nothing special about the sound quality of this reissue over some of the first pressings of this record put out by either Island or Chrysalis (which, by the way, are not that hard to find these days. Maybe require a little TLC from Disk Doctor but so do most used LPs). I disagree with Michael Fremer's opinion that this is the best sounding release of this effort ever. Ever? Sure, it is extremely quiet vinyl...extremely. But, it offers no better low end clarity than some of the original issues. The higher end is airy and has good depth and timbre but again, in my opinion, not much better than originals. I am dissappointed with this reissue from Classic Records especially at the price they asked for it. Don't waste your money.

I know that Jethro Tull had a lot of good albums but to me Aqualung was their best. The sound is superb. The mix is great and the band is tight.

Quality control issues at Classic Records posted on 05/11/2009

Aqualung is a fantastic album, and I was excited to see that Classic Records had released a "definitive" pressing of this LP. Unfortunately, it appears that Classic Records is suffering from quality control issues. I purchased two copies of this LP, and in both cases the spindle hole was far too small for the disc to be played on my turntable. Perhaps I was just unlucky, but I suggest that you buy with caution.

Pretty disappointed with this one. It sounds pretty flat to me, one dimensional, and not nearly as good as some of my better records. All the other Quiet SV-P albums I've gotten have been excellent; not this one though.

Back in the day, this was considered a classic. I had forgotten just how good this album really was. The sound is just stunning. Hard to believe the 45RPM can top this. About as good as any of the rock remasters I've heard from 1970 timeframe. Belongs in the same class as Cosmo's Factory & Led Zeppelin I.

Not sure why the mixed reviews here, but my pressing is perfect and sounds brilliant. This is the one I spin when showing off the system capabilities.

I actually owned this album on eight track at one time! A great record that still sounds fresh and this version of it sounds as good as it's going to get. The price is going up as supply goes down so don't wait any longer. If you love vinyl and this album but it now.
