This marks the first time Pink Floyd's seminal recording will be presented in full 5.1 surround sound, having been remixed and remastered by longtime Pink Floyd producer/engineer James Guthrie. By all industry standards, The Dark Side Of The Moon is a phenomenon. Known for its complex instrumental textures, the album firmly established Pink Floyd as one of the most innovative bands in rock history. Since its release in 1973, The Dark Side Of The Moon has sold over 30 million copies and spent an incredible 741 weeks on Billboard's Album Chart.

Had the technology been available then, I believe this is how the artists would have wanted the album to sound.

To truly listen to and enjoy this album, and I do mean ALBUM, and not SACD, you need to get the QUAD Vinyl or the 8-track version. AS that is how the BAND really mixed it with Alan Parsons. Now dont get me wrong, James Guthries is great, but the SACD just to me is VERY LACKING. Not to mention te fact that Sony paid for the making of this, to help promote their own format of SACD, while DVD-Audio has existed for years, making us buy all new decks to listen. I say skip it and wait for the REAL version!

While the vinyl Mobil Fidelity 2-channel verison is still better that the SACD, the SACD is worth having. Of the thousands of times I have listened to this LP since 1973 I was taken back by the SACD's multi-track 5.1 surround verision. There is additional LFE that the LP or CD dosen't have, which caught me be surprise! And YES I have speakers that would reproduce the lowest notes without a sub. This is one LP or Disc that should be in everyone's collection! It's nice to see it remastered from the orignal multi-track tape - All SACD's should be done this way!! Continoue with PF - Wish You Were Here, PF - Animals, The Wall, and all Moody Blues Next? I place my order...

A reviewer below complains that DVDA has been available for years...so has SACD!

Now that I got that out of the way, I love this SACD! I also have the album on heavy vinyl and I prefer the surround sound SACD version better. This album was all about special effects and they are just better when they have more speakers to work with.

Highly recommended

Purist can say what they want about vinyl, but THESE aren't your daddies LP's. Anything that creates friction and wears out the surface can't it's IMPOSSABLE to sound better than this SACD. YOU JUST CAN'T CONVINCE ME!!!!! GET you a SACD player and check it out.

While some of the guitar solos seem to be over-amped and at times harsh (at least on my system) the overall quality of this 5.1 re-mix is extraordinary. When you get to “Time” and “Any Colour You Like,” hold on to your drinks because the low end bass/synth notes are room shaking. The vocal-delay panning on “Us and Them” is used very effectively as are the sound fx on “Money.” I’d give it a 5 - in fact, I just did.

The mix on this SACD is all you would expect from this album, hey it was always great in stereo and I remember hearing it in quad sourrounded by the classic JBL L150a speakers in a demo room in the late 70's. Hearing it in 5.1 brought back new thrills to an album I have heard hundreds of times. The quality of this SACD is the best of all the "Dark Side" audiofile albums I have purchased over the years, including the Mobile Fidelity Gold CD. The stereo mix on a standard CD player under head phones adds a cleaness and richness unheard until now. A must have for any collection.

I use this SACD multi-channel effort as the standard by which I measure all other SACD efforts. I don't send in product reviews as a rule but I have found the sonic quality of various SACD to be inconsistent - to be polite about it. I think this 5 channel SACD will please most listeners.

Purests will sermonize on the high end sonic quality of the vinyl edition, but the huge seperation, spaciousness & detail on this issue is just all over the vinyl. There are things on this that I never heard in over 30 years of past enjoyment. Not to mention I don't have to get up every 30 min.

YOU MUST HAVE AN SACD PLAYER TO ENJOY THIS. REGULAR CD PLAYERS WILL NOT WORK.

All I have to say is MUST HAVE. If you are a Pink Floyd fan OR a SACD enthusiast, you must buy this album. The mix is fantastic, the music -well that is a no brainer and the sound quality is superb. This is how "On the Run" was meant to be heard!

The 5.1 surround is excellent ! SACD and DVD-A are the only way to listen to great music and this is a perfect example of how great music should sound.

I actually got this disc before I even had a SACD player. A reasonable price for a high-end disc and top-notch reviews wherever I looked convinced me, along with the really modest cost of entry-level players, that I wanted to do this. Couldn't have made a better choice. Money just leaps to life with effects dancing around you. Then that gorgeous signature bass line rolls in. Finally the band jumps in and the sound is as was said in one TV ad "pure sonic alchemy." Us And Them showcases both the superb surround sound and perfect instrument localization that only SACD is capable of. The sax solo on that tune, just pops out right in front of you and makes you look to see if there really is a sax in the room. Ranks as one of the three best SACD's I've heard. I still get goosebumps when I play it. A MUST HAVE. Repeat, A MUST HAVE.

Having heard this one a lot before both on LPs and on CD quality, I expected really much from having to hear this one being multichannel. Sound is wide, crisp, highs protruding and lows begging for a subwoofer assistance.

Found myself recalling every note and comparing every one to one in my memories. Great way to recall Dark Side of the Moon, great to have this one even in digital age. I would recommend to have it in your library, but it may not be the first one to have with your new SACD player as I believe newer records provide more of depth and Wow.

I think this one is a Must for people having allready the album on LP or CD.

If you've heard DSM before SACD you'll know the outstanding stereo sound effects. Now in a multichannel surround mix the producers really out did themselves. The laughter in Run is haunting and the cash register in Money moves all around the room. Excellent!!!

I just did an A/B comparison of the new 180 gram vinyl pressing to this outstanding sacd and what I've concluded is they are not the same and cannot be compared. My turntable settup is carefully tweeked and value is in the thousands so sound quality is not on trial. This sacd showcases the surround elements and sound quality sacd's are capable of and it is obvious this one was masterfully done. And yes good sacd's equal good vinyl in sound quality. If you own an expensive sacd player that isnt capable of multi-channel output you are a sucker. The vinyl version cant be touched when listening to the base guitar of "Money" it just rules period! In defense of the sacd it wasnt mastered to highlight it. They are two distinct experiences that shouldn't be missed. If you like this music you should have both. They are both capable of immersing you in the music.
