Digitally remastered in 2013! Smash 1982 album reissued with 10 rare BONUS tracks including eight live songs recorded in Cologne in December 1982, plus a DVD of a 5.1 Surround Sound mix. Features "Family Man", later covered by Hall & Oates.

Five Miles Out is the seventh record album by Mike Oldfield, released in 1982, at a time when his music was moving away from large-scale symphonic pieces towards a more accessible pop style. This 2013 reissue includes two discs: the first features the original, remastered album augmented with non-LP B-side “Waldberg (The Peak)” and a demo of the title track, while the second features eight tracks from a 1982 live show in Cologne, France.

Oldfield was back into the extended composition game with Five Miles Out, continuing the “Taurus” series with the mammoth “Taurus II,” an entertaining enough romp with references to Irish music, brass bands and Oldfield’s beloved Morris. The true standout, though, was the title track, a paean to flying in bad weather that could easily double for Oldfield’s feelings about the sort of monumental critical drubbing he was accustomed to receiving.
