Maybe not exactly the first Dizzy that comes to mind when discussing jazz, this Jamaican-born, British-raised trumpeter overcame whatever burdens that nickname may have wrought to become a highly respected player in the New York scene. He enhanced that rep by recording some truly excellent albums for the Savoy, Blue Note and Prestige labels among others. His robust and passionate playing styles always seemed to inspire other musicians in his company. The contributions of the esteemed trio invited; pianist Walter Bishop, Jr., bassist Doug Watkins and drummer Art Taylor unilaterally match the front man's fire and bold approach to each tune.

Jazz the way it ought to be posted on 07/17/2017 5 Stars Reviewer: Mike Baskett I'm still learning about bebop and took a chance on this album. I had never heard of Dizzy Reece and now I wonder why. The music is very enjoyable. For some reason music like this makes me think of a nice cafe on a windy, sunny November day. It evokes such pleasure and having it on a record that displays it's sonic qualities at it's best helps accentuate those feelings. The pressing is first rate of course (this is AP so no surprise there) but the way the music just "becomes" out of an inky black background with such presence and subtleby to every note helps make the emotional content that much more vivid. This is an album worth buying and hearing for the rest of your life. The pressing is first rate and the band members are completely in sync with each other making for an ejnoyable musical event in the comfort of your own home.

Let me sound off posted on 07/31/2013 5 Stars Reviewer: emmanuel There's no need for me to tell you about the technical merits of these 45rpm blue note records from analog productions and music matters Ltd. know this, it's analog music done the way it should be done. I was not familiar with Dizzy Reece before I bought this album and I won't soon forget his name after listening to this record. This is hard bop jazz of the highest order. Should you or should you not buy it? Listen to me carefully; once these blue note titles are gone, they are gone forever, at least for this century. No one is gonna put these records out again like this for another hundred years. So if you're a jazz enthusiast this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for you to own and hear these records in pure analog mode with better fidelity than most of the originals. You'd be a fool not buy them.
