Mastered by Arnie Acosta and cut by Bernie Grundman at Bernie Grundman Mastering. Includes 12" x 12" deluxe 16-page booklet.

Boy announced the arrival of four young men from Dublin who would conquer the world in short order. Bono and company were barely out of their teens when they recorded their first album, and their youthful vigor lights up every track here. Full of ambition, driven by a politicized (though not yet explicitly so) sense of purpose, the songs give listeners an idea of what it's like to come of age in a strife-torn country and count on rock and roll as your means of transcendence.

Beats the original LP pressing hands down in every category. In an A/B against the original CD, I found this vinyl re-release to be fuller and fatter sounding, in a good way. Clear improvements are Clayton’s bass that has more presence and a bit more punch. But what clearly sets the new vinyl apart is the clarity of the percussion which I always thought sounded a bit hissy and mushy on the original vinyl and CD. Not so on the re-issue. Very precise and distinct; the way I always wished it would sound. Mid-range about the same, but overall, I’d say that there’s about 10% more on the bottom end and 15% more in the upper range. My guess is that there is likely some limitations of the source tape; so 4 stars for that. But from a reproduction standpoint, this is probably the definitive version of this album to date and easily worth the $25 if you are at all a fan of this early work of U2.

The remastering of this old classic is well done. The sound is very detailed with a fairly wide soundstage and precise placement of vocals and instruments. The vinyl is of reasonably good quality, not absolutely dead quiet, but pretty good. The only criticism (and the reason for a score of 4) is that the sound is a bit bright. Probably a consequence of trying to get the most detail out of the recordings. A little bit of warmth would have helped.

Well the first review says it all. At the time i purchased this here at a.s. the price was lower than amazon! Even so, I feel the price is to high for a record. But u2´s manager already said they can squeeze more of our money if they package them more nicely, remember? The package is nothing like most valued at 14 to 19 bucks. Well maybe only Pearl Jam records! Very heavy and great booklet.

U2's Boy is one of those very special records from my teenage years. The sound of this new edition beats the pants off of my stock copy of my youth. The super quiet vinyl makes for a great listen. The 16 page booklet features pictures from the period and a nice little essay by English journalist Paul Morley.
