Elton John - Madman Across the Water

"Madman Across the Water is driven by the sweeping string arrangements of Paul Buckmaster, who gives the songs here a richly dark and haunting edge. And these are songs that benefit from grandiose treatments. With most songs clocking in around five minutes, the record feels like a major work, and in many ways it is. While it’s not as adventurous as Tumbleweed Connection, the overall quality of the record is very high, particularly on character sketches "Levon" and "Razor Face," as well as the melodramatic "Tiny Dancer" and the paranoid title track." - All Music Guide

I picked Madman and Tumbleweed up at a great price (under $20). The sound of both is excellent on both my SACD player and my regular CD player. Highly recommend both.

The sound quality of this SACD is very much in keeping with the favorable reviews found here. It really is possessive of an "analogue warmth". This is an exceptional treat for this sort of medium!

One of the best sounding 5.1 mixes out there!

Incredibly well done! I own many 5.1 SACDs and DVD Audio discs and this one is top notch!! Very "warm" sound!

Well, where to start...the title track in surround is like a musical drug. It seems some people know what I am talking about (the organ in the rears on the final verse). I trust my Uncle more than anyone and he claims that you can hear it through his phones very very faintly in the right..I believe it was an 80's release on vinyl (180 or 200). I do agree that DSD, done right, (here it goes) is better than vinyl. Everyone knows that even the CD could do things sonically that vinyl couldn't, and sense DSD is a digital,"analogous waveform" due to the -1's...My uncle and I, well, he just shakes his head. THIS MUST BE HEARD IN MULTICHANNEL!!

Highly recommended! This is a great SACD remaster. Recommendation is only for 2 channel SACD as I have not listened to multichannel SACD mix.

I am like most folks. I appriciate Elton John's talent. One of the greatest artist of our time. I have never just loved everything he did like my sister. I just liked his music and appriciated his talent. Now, that being said, THIS is a great album. A REALLY GREAT ALBUM!!! DO YOU HEAR ME? If you missed this one, your missing out.

Except for the first one, These are all great. There is a great difference in the quality of SACD's and DVD-A's(some releases on both formats sound terrible) and it is great to find a release that shows what the medium is capable of. Elton's Madman is my favorite. Every bit as good of quality as the Dylan releases on SACD.

very good mix

The total sound is very good, however some instruments just seem to be coming from the rears that may have not been originally placed there. all in all I feel it is a very good mix with pristine clairity.
