How good is this reissue? Very good indeed. Does it beat the Kevin Gray remastering of a few years ago? In my opinion, yes.

I'm a big fan of Kevin Gray's mastering work, and I buy with confidence anything with his name on it. His remastering of this title is excellent. His EQ choices differ a little. Ella's voice is spotlit, rounder, with more of a tubey glow. On the Analog Spark reissue, Ella's voice sounds flatter and less midrangey, and the whole recording is a bit brighter.

However, the Analog Spark reissue is clearer and more detailed. As others have said, you can actually hear each instrument in the orchestra. No previous issue of this title has had such clarity. I think this justifies AS's decision to spread it over three LPs rather than two.

So if you have KG's remaster, do you need this one? If you love this tile as much as I do, yes. The difference is by no means night and day. As I said, both are excellent. But the AS remaster is the one I'll listen to.
