"Noted avant-jazz jammers Medeski Martin & Wood have re-teamed with ace guitarist and occasional collaborator John Scofield for Juice, the fourth album to surface from the quartet. Juice showcases the group’s penchant for tight grooves and a kind of purposeful rambling often absent from jam festival circuit.
"Originally written by saxophonist Eddie Harris, 'Sham Time' is a groovy number with subtle organ flourishes and Scofield’s bluesy lead runs.
“'Our approach is influenced by our love for early boogaloo and Latin music, so I knew it’d be a perfect fit,' John Medeski said. 'After we recorded it, we all agreed it should be the the first track on the record because it really sets up the mood of the album as a whole, which is to have fun with the music and get into that funky jazz thing that we love to do.'" - Paste
