La Roux's eagerly-awaited sophomore album
Follow-up to English synthpop band (Elly Jackson)'s 2009 Grammy-winning debut!
"Her vintage synth-pop magnificence (see 2009's hit "Bulletproof") has warmed into the sort of electro-disco drama you imagine the Daft Punk robots blasting as they cruise down Highway 1." — Rolling Stone
The second full-length release for the British synthpop artist Elly Jackson (Ben Langmaid left the band during the recording of the album) was co-produced with Ian Sherwin. America's mad love affair with Cherrytree/Interscope recording artist La Roux blossomed with the release of 2009's self-titled debut, an album rife with playfully gorgeous synth-pop that captured our hearts. Now La Roux returns with Trouble In Paradise and will once again head to our shores to kick off a nationwide tour.
La Roux (Cherrytree/Interscope Records) blew up internationally, going platinum and gold in multiple countries. Stateside, multi-platinum hit single "Bulletproof" soared up the Billboard Hot 100 charts making its way to the Top Ten where it stayed for weeks. The debut release also garnered a Grammy for Best Electronic/Dance Album among other illustrious honors including nominations for a Mercury Prize, MTV Europe Award, MTV Woodie and two Brit Awards.
"La Roux's synth-heavy eponymous 2009 debut — which spawned hits "Bulletproof" and "In for the Kill" and won a Grammy for electronic/dance album — turned the British singer with a fire-hued, Woody Woodpecker-esque quiff and androgynous flair into a pop star. ...Trouble in Paradise is a sexy, groove-heavy set that doesn't lose its sparkle. Unlike its predecessor, the album bubbles with the instant familiarity of early '80s Brit-pop flourishes without feeling like a homage.
"This album is far more about musical parts than anything else for me. The sound of it is interesting and intriguing and it grows and develops and builds and takes you on a journey," Jackson said. "It's not like, here's a hit and rubbing it in your face. It's very experimental." — Los Angeles Times
