This is revolutionary! Auralic's new Aries streaming devices are a simple-to-use DSD compatible computer wifi streamer that eliminates complicated hookups and compatibility issues for computer audio playback.
You plug the Aries to your DAC through any of its digital ports (including USB) and after installing the proprietary app for the iPad/iPhone, you select your music directly from the iPad and the Aries works flawlessly. Part of the new Lightning series, Auralic has engineered their "Bridge Streamer" to provide users with a choice of wireless streaming solutions that support high-resolution audio, including DSD-based files. Based on an ARM-A9 core, the Aries will decode most audio formats including AAC, AIFF, ALAC, APE, DIFF, DSF, FLAC, MP3, OGG, WAV and WMA.
The video tutorials linked here will introduce you to the quick setup of an Aries system and Aries' various capabilities. Aries is capable of streaming all file formats, no matter if you prefer a wired or wireless connection. A music server in your local network can easily and quickly be added, as well as internet radio stations! The Aries is a great way to access and enjoy your digital music library throughout your residence or office, but it's so much more. Take a moment, watch and learn.
Auralic describes the products as bridge solutions that work in between a home network and DAC (digital-to-analog converter) devices. Internally the Aries utilizes Auralic's proprietary Tesla hardware platform that includes 1GHz Quad-Core ARM Coretex-A9 processor and 1GB of DDR3 memory with 4GBs of internal storage.
The USB audio host is capable of handling PCM signals that range from 44.1kHz to 384kHz at sample rates ranging from 16-bit to 32-bit, and DSD and double-rate DSD when the streamers are combined with DACs compatible with those formats. The other digital outputs are capable of handling 24-bit/192kHz files and DSD64 only.
The streamers employ the OpenHome technology platform that was popularized by Linn Products. The use of this technology allows the Aries and other Lightning products to support multiroom, whole-house audio with multiple control points and standards such as UPnP and DLNA.
Auralic supports the Aries products with its Lightning DS iOS app that allows homeowners to control and access their music libraries. The app supports Songcast and Apple's AirPlay technologies. The Aries products are available in two versions: the base LE model (MSRP $999) and the upgraded Purer-Power model ($1599) that features a robust, external linear power supply and individual Femto clocks for the USB host and digital outputs.
ARIES LE: The standard model with low-phase noise crystal and standard external PSU.
