So popular was CCR worldwide that by 1970 the group was consistently scoring hits on both the A and B sides of its singles, a feat previously accomplished by Elvis Presley and the Beatles. This LP, released in November 1969, proved no exception, containing "Fortunate Son" and "Down On The Corner," the latter becoming one of CCR's biggest hits to date. Fogerty's fine gritty voice and his tight vocal overdubbing are standouts, along with his excellent renditions of "Cotton Fields" and "Midnight Special." Willy And The Poorboys remained on the Billboard charts for 60 weeks, scoring as high as No. 3 and garnering the group's third platinum LP.

Great album that has never sounded better. You will not regret buying this one or any of the other CCR reissues now available by this label.

I'll keep this brief. I was blown away by the music and sound of this LP. The CCR titles offered by Acoustic Sounds are living proof of the rebirth of analog music. They are quite simply the best-sounding LPs I own. Buy now.

First of all, the mastering is like no other version you've heard before (except the other CCR reissues)and the drums will literally hit you in the chest if you turn it up enough. I seriously was not ready for the feel of the drums that I experienced when I put this record on the platter.

Musically, in my opinion this album could quite possibly be the best Creedence album ever made. Even though it doesn't have 7 bona fide hits like Cosmos's Factory, every song on here is a gem. I've also never heard the entire album before, so I found 7 fresh CCR songs that are just about as good as Down on the Corner and Fortunate Son. Man, and where did that last song Effigy come from? That is the most rockin' song I've heard yet from CCR. Sounds like Neil Young was on lead guitar that day. All in all, a great blend of down home sounding music.

I Definitely give it 2 thumbs up with a Z formation (anyone still remember those guys?)!

I have just received my third CCR Acoustech remastered LP, Willy and the Poorboys, to add to Green River and Cosmo's Factory I already have. Once again I am struck by the incredible dynamics available on such an old recording. The music is rock solid, the bass excellent and it gives you only music - nothing more. I tend to play Side 2 first and in this way Fortunate Son starts the album. There are no gimmicks here and the lyrics are short and to the point.

Technically the album in its remastered version is a beauty. Note my comments on Green River. My children have always thought that Cottonfields was written by some local group (in South Africa) and were surprised to hear that it is in fact a cover done by the group, of an older song.

For many people Willy and the Poorboys is the ultimate rock and roll album. I fully agree. Having heard most CCR stuff that I do not own, on CD, hearing this album on vinyl is absolutely wonderful. Definitely recommended.
